Aggressive ECO mode makes Drive Unusable as NAS (e.g. Airport Drive)

Summary: Note that this drive has an aggressive "Eco" mode. Unlike other LaCie products you cannot turn off the "Eco" mode on this one. This makes the drive unusable for certain applications. For example, the Drive cannot be used with an Apple Airport. I would imagine that it can't be used in many similar scenarios. BUYER BEWARE.
Summary: So far, so good. This is my first mirror-type backup drive. Two features I don't like: the large, bright blue light on the front and the sound. I just started using this so can't comment on the durability. When I first set it up, as a RAID 1, I wasn't sure how to set it so called customer support (LaCie.) Although my hold time was really long, maybe 40 minutes, the person who helped me was great. Had it setup in just minutes, worth the wait!
In any case this is the 3rd LaCie drive I've purchased and it is the 3rd one that that has gone bad on me

Summary: Update:Even though I have removed this disk because it failed. Something loaded by the disk as described by errors identify the Lacie disk as the problem and continues to crash both my Macs. This disk is like a virus. Do not attach it to your Mac, you will never get rid of it. Update: My drive has started to fail with clicking sounds. Once the clicking starts, the drive is inaccessible. I have another drive on order to replace the LaCie.
Summary: This is exactly why I buy the quadra 2bigs. When my 2big got jostled recently, one of the 2 drives was damaged. I use it in "safe mode", which means that it mirrors one drive with the other. You get half the space, but the data security is worth it, because with external drives, it's not *if* it fails, but *when* it fails.
High priced for being a simple HD within an aluminum enclosure

Summary: I bought two of these units to be prepared to replace the originals when they start to fail. However, I noted that : a) They might come with a different type of HD inside. The two disks that I bought, even though they are the same capacity, one HD is significantly slimmer and lighter than the other . b) After analyzing the previous problem, I realized that they are common HD's just within an expensive enclosure, nothing more.
