Good So Far

Wild West, B&H Photo
30 July 2015
  • Excerpt: The backup drive is now working as expected, after a few initial setup hitches. The drive was not preconfigured right away for my Windows 8.1 machine -- I had to format the device first -- going through a few hoops with LaCie support. Support has been good so far -- kudos to LaCie.

Works Fine - RAID Setup Leaves Much To Be Desired

  • Excerpt: The disks work fine, I am using USB-3 and they perform well. Mostly photo and video files. I am using a "Manual Raid" system, copying files to the two disks manually because the RAID setup simply would not work. This actually works better for the way I am using the storage.

A Solid Performing Product

  • Excerpt: As a profesional photographer in the sciences, I must depend upon backing up files. Previously, I have been using Just a Mess of Drives (as opposed to JBOD). All were written independently. Over time this became a nightmare and unmanageable in a reasonable manner.

Great Raid 1Performance

  • Excerpt: Set up several of these as Raid 1 external HD's. I have found the USB 3.0's to be fast and reliable and worth the cost difference from the Thunderbolt drives.

Buy Anything Else

John C., Newegg
16 January 2015
  • Summary: This drive was rarely used. Its sole purpose was archiving. I was stored in a climate controlled clean room offline. Occasionally the files were updated. I doubt it has 50 hours on it.
  • Pros: There are no "pros"
  • Cons: TOO LOUD to be anywhere near your work station. Has no security lock slot. It Died with so few hours on it I feel like the cost vs. value is totally upside down. In fact, I feel ripped off. Any other RAID drive would be a better choice. I've had several LaCie drives fail. I'll never buy another one.

With 3 year warranty you can't go wrong!

  • Excerpt: I use these drives and their thunderbolt versions for editing a film that is almost 6Tb in footage. I wouldn't choose another brand. Rarely needed service, but when I have, customer support and turn around times are top rate.

Love it!

  • Excerpt: Great RAID 1 drive. I'm a music producer and, for my job, I need a lot of storage space and I need it to be reliable. The LaCie 8TB 2Big Quadra seems perfect for the job. I have to have old audio sessions (that are several GB each) available for years after I've finished working on them in case the...

works extremely well

  • Excerpt: Using this as a Raid 1 back up for all my digital assets. It is fast and speedy, but the documentation could have been better as it uses a different set-up procedure then expected. Quiet and small footprint.

Nice Addition to the home network

James G., Newegg
3 April 2014
  • Summary: Altogether you pay a lot up front but over time you save money because you do not have to keep buying seperate HDD to store your stuff.
  • Pros: Very quiet and fast transfer speeds. Use it on my desktop to stream movies and TV shows to my WD Live Tvs. Not once has it frozen or skipped a beat
  • Cons: Bit pricey but you always get what you pay for. Kinda heavy but you can put it in a place that you will not even notice it. The blue light is really bright
