Summary: LaCie does it again with an excellent external hard drive. Reason I bought this one is because I needed a "backup to a backup" type setup. I wasn't comfortable with just having one backup so I opted for the Quadra 4TB with a Raid 1 setup so I can constantly have 2 backups of my info. Other than USB 3.0 it also has Firewire 400 and 800 for those that don't have USB 3.0.
Excerpt: This is the 2nd LaCie product I've owned. Ordered my first one quiet some time ago from B&H Tool. Lasted a good long while. Now this is my 2nd 6TB 2big Quadra USB 3.0 2-Bay as the first one I ordered from B&H arrived damanged in shipping. Drives were buggered up. They returned no problem and shipped me a replacement - GOT TO LOVE B&H!!!Replacement arrived. Couldn't get drive visible to Computer. LaCie has lots of help on its sight.
Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, High Capacity, Quiet
Excerpt: It is a beautiful piece of equipment, nicely build aluminium housing. Easy software install. But: The drive does not come installed in RAID mode, but appears as a huge 8 TB hardest on my MacBookPro. After switching to SAFE on the back of the drive, the drive does not show in Finder anymore. After some research on the nett, others have the same problem, without finding any solution.
Summary: This drive was rarely used. Its sole purpose was archiving. I was stored in a climate controlled clean room offline. Occasionally the files were updated. I doubt it has 50 hours on it. It simply stopped working and LaCie tech support can not say what's wrong with it because the LED troubleshooting status lights match no pattern.
Pros: There are no "pros"
Cons: TOO LOUD to be anywhere near your work station. Has no security lock slot. It Died with so few hours on it I feel like the cost vs. value is totally upside down. In fact, I feel ripped off. Any other RAID drive would be a better choice. I've had several LaCie drives fail. I'll never buy another one.
Aggressive ECO mode makes Drive Unusable as NAS (e.g. Airport Drive)

Summary: Note that this drive has an aggressive "Eco" mode. Unlike other LaCie products you cannot turn off the "Eco" mode on this one. This makes the drive unusable for certain applications. For example, the Drive cannot be used with an Apple Airport. I would imagine that it can't be used in many similar scenarios. BUYER BEWARE.
Summary: So far, so good. This is my first mirror-type backup drive. Two features I don't like: the large, bright blue light on the front and the sound. I just started using this so can't comment on the durability. When I first set it up, as a RAID 1, I wasn't sure how to set it so called customer support (LaCie.) Although my hold time was really long, maybe 40 minutes, the person who helped me was great. Had it setup in just minutes, worth the wait!
