    It's the most solid drive I've ever picked up. It was easy to hook up. Time Machine on my Mac automatically found it and is using it for backup. Nice soft blue light on the front. Read more

    I purchased this useless hunk of metal in December, 2009. It worked well for about 2 days, during which time I painstakingly uploaded the first part of my CD collection (I was into the "B"s; thank God I didn't get any further) when my PC stopped recognizing the unit. I hooked it to every other computer in my home and got the same result. Nothing. It's GARBAGE. NEVER buy one these. Read more

    I bought this to use with TimeMachine as a replacement for an older and smaller backup drive. Straight out of the box I reformatted it via OS X's Disk Utility and it was ready to roll. Speed seems to be fine, though I would have preferred it had USB 3.0 or Firewire (hence only 4 stars for performance). Overall, a very well-made device that lends some much needed peace of mind. ioSafe Solo is a 2 TB capacity USB desktop external hard drive. Retailing at $399, the waterproof and fireproof ioSafe Solo provides storage space for both home users and businesses to backup and protect against data loss. The 2 TB ioSafe Solo is targeted for anyone looking to buy a desktop external hard drive who needs the high capacity and single drive. When used as a backup device, the ioSafe protects against data loss from primary hard drive failure, accidental deletions as well as fires, floods and other forms of physical disasters. The ioSafe Solo is covered by a 3 year warranty. It measures 5.0 x 7.1 x 11.0 inch and weighs 15 lbs.

Features

The ioSafe Solo is marketed as a disaster proof external hard drive and is part of the company’s rugged desktop external hard drive with a 2 TB capacity. The ioSafe Solo can safely protect family photo albums, music libraries and days of video memories and also customer databases or to secure regulated information including patient records (HIPAA, Sox, etc) or credit card information for businesses. The ioSafe Solo also uses the ioSafe patented technology including FloSafe air flow cooling, HydroSafe waterproof barriers and the DataCast fireproof insulation. The unit is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating system and supports USB 2.0 interface. Its hard drive has a spin speed of 7200 RPM with up to 480 MB/s transfer rate. It is tested for fire protection at 1550F with ½ hour per ASTM E119 specifications, and is up to UL, FCC and CE standards. The ioSafe Solo is also protected against flood/submersion up to 10 feet of water for 3 days, has physical theft protection and comes with optional cable lock/floor mount. It is available with a suggested retail price of $399 USD.
