Great swimming aid

robbirobot, Costco
  • Summary: First off: heavy. I don't think any one will run off with it (unless they are really big, then let them have it). Second: Still a mechanical hard drive, so will fail some day. Third: works well as hard drive. Do not need third party software (unless want auto back up). Make folders on it, drag and drop whatever on to it, then shut off and disconect.
  • Pros: works like any hard drive very quite
  • Cons: short usb cord which is important 'cause... did i say it was heavy?

Excellent product

marykateNM, Costco

  • Summary: I have two IoSafe products so far, and they run all the time. I have no problems at all booting my computer -- they stay on continually and it isn't a problem. I saw that someone had issues with it, but I'm not sure if there is something else that is contributing to that issue. I personally do not have any issues iwth mine and they are amazing.
  • Pros: size consistent and durable dependable
  • Cons: it is a bit big and heavy -- but not really a con.

As good as reviewers suggested

headtuner, Costco
28 March 2014
  • Summary: I bought this because it was on sale and it has had excellent reviews. I wanted something secure and trustworthy; I'm safeguarding professional data. I'm lazy and don't do all the backup stuff I should. This buys peace of mind for me: one less thing to worry about if there's a fire. Whether the disaster resistance is hype or not, I think it's true and I sleep better. The Data Recovery Service is a plus; you can buy more years for cheap.
  • Pros: usb 3.0 is very fast quiet solid extra drs available for $100/5 years mac os no problem (10.9 mavericks) new mbpro doesn't interfere with work as it backs up ez to set up and go
  • Cons: short usb cord it's heavy and clunky looking

Very solid

CTGreybeard, Costco
24 March 2014
  • Summary: I haven't done the ultimate test yet, thank goodness! But this is a very solidly built unit. I have confidence that it will protect the data should it come to that. Performance and capacity-wise it does what it says. The USB 3 connection is very fast. I have been running scripts to back up my several machines to this drive for disaster recovery. I hope I never have to use it for that purpose but I believe it will work when I need it.
  • Pros: fast solidly built
  • Cons: heavy extended warranty at extra cost

EXCELLENT PURCHASE

JJQIL, Costco
14 March 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this as a backup for all the info on my Mac Book. Had already gotten another one for my wife's PC. I thought the price for the features and amount of storage was more than reasonable. The unit comes formatted for a PC, but a simple call to their customer service, and I was in business for the Mac Book. The customer service rep was GREAT; based in the USA and did a great job!
  • Pros: great value great customer service
  • Cons: none

Excellent device, excellent tech support

Papoon, Costco
10 March 2014
  • Summary: I bought this to provide a dedicated backup for my Windows Server. Cloud storage cost more than I wanted to pay and the machine sits inaccessibly in the laundry room so rotating disks between onsite and offsite wasn't really going to work. ioSafe offered a good compromise: a backup with a reasonable chance of surviving a fire at a reasonable price.
  • Pros: great price for 3tb fireproof external storage. excellent tech support.
  • Cons: there isn't a 4tb version available.

Happy with purchase

Air1904, Costco
1 March 2014
  • Summary: I got this last year and wanted to wait until I had used this for at least 6 months. When I first started using this with a Mac, I was having some issues with it not being recognized even though it was on and hooked up, so I contacted them. They emailed me back, but kid you not once that email arrived and before I could reply to it, I didn't have another issue. Funny how that works, but it may also have to do with the fact that I updated my software around the same time.
  • Pros: quiet recent backup is available whenever i check when backing up does not slow down my process
  • Cons: not shown as connected when i first got it

DOES THE JOB!

niki76gg, Costco
27 February 2014
  • Summary: This drive is built pretty sturdy - perhaps the most reliable fire / water protective case on the market currently ( in this price range). It works quietly and has a bolt down option (anti-theft feature) that I really like. Will be using it as home network back up drive / time machine storage.
  • Pros: quite secure and sturdy
  • Cons: a bit on the heavy side
