Summary: I've had this hard drive almost a year now and I have never had any problems with it. Its surprisingly durable; just last month I tripped on the power cable and the whole thing went flying across the room and there have been no issues.
Pros: Reliable, lots of storage, strong metal case
Cons: not usb3 and it the required power adapter makes it less portable.
Summary: Quick and easy set up with a Mac.. time Machine recognizes the HD right away and presto.. it starts backing up all your data. The only downside is that to use this HD as a hard drive it has to be formatted for a Mac. The format process is quick and simple.. but no hooking it up to a windows machine afterwards. I alos like that this HD has an on/off switch so when not it use you can turn it off = less wear and tear on the drive.
Summary: I bought this drive less than a month ago and it worked just fine for 2 weeks. It now makes a very loud grinding noise. Iomega charges $25 for a phone call so your best customer option is live chat. After 25 minutes, the live chat person offered to send me another drive, but would not let me return the drive for a refund.
"Fast, Reliable, but heats up & needs a longer USB cable"
3 February 2011
Pros: FAST transfer rate (ave. >30MBps), short access time (because 7200rpm). RELIABLE - no bad experiences. Runs QUIET. Does not come with pre-installed software.
Cons: SHORT USB CABLE:Wish the USB cable was longer. HEATS UP quickly, so I leave it near the window (for cooling). External power adapter, can be BULKY to carry around both. 3.5'' + aluminum casing: HEAVY & not portable like a smaller 2.5'' HDD.
