But I ordered a DVR expander!!!

chuck summers, Amazon
14 February 2013
  • Summary: While I have a high regard for Iomega products, I dont understand how it could be so hard to get a DVR expander. The one I previously had died and I wantyed to replace it. The product sent was a Backup portable drive. To be sure I would reccomment the drive to anyone because Iomega has excellentproducts. What I dont like is not getting what I ordered. If this product is no longer made it should be noted on the web site.

Excellent Device for DirecTV DVR

G. Hessler, Amazon
17 April 2011
  • Summary: Purchased this to use on my DirecTV Satellite receiver as the internal drive appeared to be freezing up during guide usage and during playback. This drive has taken over the task perfectly. Guide is now much faster and there are no freeze-ups during playback of recorded programs. Plus, the storage space is so good that I don't have to be concerned about constantly purging the contents of the drive.

very fast-no power saving mode

regular cust, Amazon
18 March 2011
  • Summary: This 2 TB external hard drive is very fast and works quite well. If computer is setup with AHCI turned on (vs. IDE) it is a plug and play drive on eSATA. If you leave computer on IDE the PC will not complete a restart/reboot. You have to disconnect the drive and restart the PC again. Then turn the drive on... usually it will load to "my computer" on its own... but you may need to go into device manager and scan for new hardware... that works everytime.

Good but not as nice as it looks in the pictures

TobyT, Amazon
31 December 2010
  • Summary: The drive looks great in the picture but it's hard to tell that the front and back are an off putting gray plastic (same with the base). However, this doesn't detract from the overall quality of the unit. The enclosure feels solid and the the brushed aluminum look is stylish and well done. Cons: Other than the plastic look and color the only other gripe I have is the flimsy eSATA port.

Fast, sturdy, high capacity

Bennett Smith, Amazon
28 December 2010
  • Summary: This is a very well built hard drive. The eSATA interface is noticeably faster than USB 2.0. It doesn't come loaded with any software or useless rubbish. You choose which software you want by downloading it from Iomega's website. I really like the Quick Protect program, which automatically updates the files you have backed up when there are changes.

Worked as expected, no issues except...

JJN00711, Amazon
27 December 2010
  • Summary: Very solid device, good brushed metal look; solid, stand looks flimsy but is not. Performance in rock solid, no overheating issues running a surface scan for 4 hours, does not hold the system up when waking up which was a major issue with the Seagate Freeagent 1TB. Two downers are 1) Drive is not "hot-swappable" even though the specification for eSATA is, so read the instructions and don't use it that way.

No frills eSATA drive

Trevor, Amazon
24 December 2010
  • Summary: The metal case makes this drive feel incredibly sturdy. It's really just a simple external drive, but does exactly what it needs to. The little stand it can sit on is plastic, but you can also position the drive to be horizontal without it. I don't think there's any built in fan (or at least one that I can hear), so is pretty much silent in its operation. No problems yet!

Great storage option - Needs tweaking and NO SLEEP MODE

B. Balicki, Amazon
15 November 2010
  • Summary: I recently purchased this desktop drive (2GB) to use in conjunction with an Asus OPlay! media player (which, might I add, is fantastic). Both use eSATA (external SATA connection). I chose this type of connection, rather than USB 2.0 (which it also has), because I was going to be transferring a huge amount of data from my PC to this drive. eSATA claims to have 'burst' rates of up to 115MB/sec but average about 58 MB/sec (this must be on a REALLY new and FASTER machine).

Professional eSATA hard drive

Davian Gerry, rakuten
30 August 2010
  • Summary: I have a pretty big store of USB 2.0 drives. I have bought this eSATA drive of 2 TB roomspace so that I don’t have to look anywhere else for secure and fast data backup. It is the backup software which remains a strongpoint besides the eSATA factor. I have now registered for a warranty of 3 years.

Large and Fast Portable Drive

Mare, Amazon
20 January 2012
  • Summary: There was a time when you would need to purchase a bulky 3.5" drive with power supply in order to attain a larger size than 500Gig which was the maximum in the 2.5" portable drives. Now having the convenience of a 1 Tb in a 2.5" is really great coupled with the fact that it's USB 3 so connecting this drive to a more recent USB 3 laptop makes transfer of larger files a breeze up to 10 times faster than USB 2 and still compatible with older laptops for USB 2 and 1.
