Guts seem fine - but the substandard interface connector is prone to serious problems

Summary: The proprietary USB 3 interface doesn't engage reliably. From the first use, it was very temperamental and required a gentle touch. Over time, the interface would break with just a little jostling and dismount the drive. The drive is fine, but I can't get the interface cable to work. iOmega used to make high qual products, but I'll never buy another iOmega product.
Summary: I used this external hard drive for a year. Then it just died. Our computer guy (who is very knowledgable) says it is not repairable. I took excellent care of it and only used it once a week for my back up! Not reliable!! Very dissapointed!
Summary: after 2 years of very rare usage the disc died with read/write errorr. I almost never used it on the go, formatting did not help - i specifically bought this one b/c it's promised robustness but failed on me - don't buy!
Summary: I've had my Iomega for over a year. I carefully transported it and never dropped it. It finally died on me. I recommend the Samsung Solid State Drive which is built with no moving parts. It cost more but it's definitely worth the investment!
Summary: This little wonder works flawlessly with my 2011 Core i7 MacBook Pro. I use it for Time Machine backups, and I use the 800 MB/s Firewire option rather than USB2. I tried another hard drive made by another manufacturer, but it would always freeze shortly after the backup started. It was a disaster. I actually swapped out MacBooks because I was 'sure' that it was the Mac rather than the hard drive. But on a whim I decided to try this Iomega drive and voila!
Summary: I realyl like the hard drive, but the cable is one that i have never seen before, in fact i lost it while i was traveling and now i dont know where to find another one that will work with this hard drive! ---- i came back to edit this review because I called iomega to ask them about the cable and they were incredibly nice and helpful, in fact they are sending me a new cable and not even charging me shipping!
Summary: I use this portable to sync my desktop and laptop. I upgraded both to USB 3.0. The speed is comparable to E-SATA and overall I am very happy with the Iomega 500 GB. The only problem I have is with the "mini" connection to the Iomega. I really wish is was a standard configuration so I could use a standard USB 3.0 cable. The cable that came with this eGo is about 18" long so I have to connect it behind my desktop.
Rugged looking drive but better options may be available

Summary: I use the Iomega eGoto drive to backup photographs form my laptop when I am travelling. Not needing to rely on an external power source when using the drive makes it ideal for carrying on the road with you. The Iomega drive is a good size for stowing in a backpack. There is a rubber guard around the drive which makes the drive easier to grasp and the drive feels solidly built. The included cable requires two USB ports on your computer.
