The drawer does not open most of the time...would not purchase this unit

Summary: The drawer does not open consistently so most of the time you have to put a paper clip in the little hole to remove your CD...when I went on line to see if others had problems with this, it sounds like a common problem with this particular unit. Of course I did not realize this until I had throw away the packaging so I am probably not going to go through the hassle of trying to return it...but I would not recommend this unit and wish I had not purchased it.
Summary: I have now purchased both the 1TB and the 500GB Iomega portable hard drives and they are with every penny. They are fast and reliable. The drop guard gives that added security on the device you won't normally have on a standard external harddrive. If you need some extra space for your laptop and want to be able to take it with you, the Iomega portable harddrives are the way to go.
Summary: Before I bought this external hard drive I did some research and this one was a bit more expensive but it's specifically for Mac, and it looks protected, so I went for it. The problem was not in the product but the 3rd party who actually sells it to you. I got a very speedy estimated arrival date and without any notice it didn't show on that day or for some time..
Summary: This hard drive is my favorite so far. Holds a ton, doesn't have to be plugged in and it's small and light. I can pop it in my backpack an have my home files with me at the office without having to drag my whole laptop in. Transfer rate seems good. Nice sleek design. Great hd.
Summary: I have a 500gb unit and was happy with it, so I purchase another 1TB. I transferred all my data to the new unit hoping to consolidate. When I tried to install the encrytion utility from Iomega, I suddenly couldn't see my data anymore. I sent it to Iomega Data Recovery and they quoted me $900. The evaluation said it's a "structure" failure, but Iomega won't recover my data even when the unit is still under warranty (purchased less than a year).
Summary: I bought this drive as a backup to my backup after experiencing failures on different backup drives. After losing some pretty valuable data, my paranoia was at an all-time high. Now I back up to 2 external drives AND to DVDs. The eGo BlackBelt works seamlessly with Mac's Time Machine and connecting it over FireWire helps minimize the transfer time. It's nice and compact so i can easily hide it away in a drawer after backing up my data.
