Summary: I have been aware that I really should do something about backing up the life-time of photos amd music. But only dipped my feet in the techie waters when my 320GB drive started to look rather too full. I know nothing about technology. So I was after a "straight out of the box", plug-it-in and nothing else to do. This appeared to fit the bill. And it did so beautifully.
Summary: I bought this in August 2011 to use as my Time machine, having had an Iomega 500GB USB drive that contiues to give sterling service after about 6 years on constant use. The Iomega is daisy chained with two WD Mybook firewire drives and has performed faultlessly. It is smaller and neater than the WD drives taking up very little desk space. I have absolutely no problems with recommending Iomega hard drives, but I unlike others, I haven't had one that's gone wrong!!
Summary: I recently bought an Apple iMac and needed an external drive in order to make use of the excellent Time Machine backup software, I used the internet to obtain the opinions of other Mac users as to the most suitable to purchase and eventually decided on this as it had good reviews and was Mac compatible straight from the box.
Summary: have had this for a few weeks. Very easy to use with macbook pro (plug and play). Things I liked were the use of firewire and the fact that it can stand on its side taking less space and keeps cooler. reasonably compact considering its storage capacity. I read several reviews of other products and glad I chose this one!
Excellent value in November 2011 but 2012 price has rocketed.

Summary: I usually buy internal drives and put them in an enclosure, but the recent rocketting in price due to floods in Thailand made this nice-looking, silver disk an economical alternative. A 1TB 7200 rpm 3.5 internal disk is currently as much to buy as this disk - which is 2TB and already has a box - and TWO Firewire 800 sockets (Mac compatible). I couldn't find out what speed it was but it wasn't too important as I only wanted to use it for back up storage.
Summary: Having used PCs and more recently a Mac for years as an experienced user rather than a technical whizz, I wanted a back up and storage drive that had good capacity and was reliable and ideally Firewire to work on my new MacBook Pro. Most of the ultra portable HDD that run on USB are lower capacity (I have two of those as well) so this 2TB drive is more suited to a 'keep at home' reliable back up source than a portable drive.
