Summary: I LOVE this Hitachi SimpleDrive Mini 500GB Portable External Hard Drive! The Protable Hard Drive is sleek & small making transporting my files so easy & hassle free, it works great, and the price was affordable! I would be lost with out it!!!
Summary: I have been using this for 3 years now. It never failed and never gave me any errors. I was not using it extensively, but it had it's portion of load. I've carried this drive with me in a lot of trips and used it with a variety of OS's and it was and is always working.
Summary: I bought this hard drive for my many space A travels in military planes. Since there is a lot of movement and sometimes youre only allowed a small bag in the planes, things have to be a bit tight inside that backpack. so I bought the hitachi simple tough because it was said to be by many reviews "indestructable". I received the item from amazon and filled it up with movies and music for my upcoming trip.
Summary: Bought this item, #1 because I was looking for a good storage drive; #2 because I ALWAYS trusted Hitachi to make a very good electronics product; #3 because the price was fantastic! Should have been a clue... "If it sounds too good to be true.." Yep... worked fine until I had about half my backup on it, then decided it no longer wanted to be recognized. If I leave it plugged in for a long time (15+ min.
Summary: This drive is junk. It has always been slow to mount or be recognized. I read numerous reviews a year ago and thought they were being overly critical so I bought it anyway. I found out the hard way by losing all of my data because just out of the blue my Mac won't mount the drive and my PC won't recognize the drive. Now after taking some time to read how to fix it??!! FORMAT and re-use. How about FORMAT and DESTROY.
Summary: I was pleased at how easy this drive connected to my dad's 10 year old emac and I could transfer files to my new macbook pro without formatting or installing anything. I have noticed that file transfers are faster with 2 USB ports and I used a powered USB hub (my dad's machine only has 1.1 USB). The drive is plug and play. That simple. Since then I've used it for media and haven't run into any problems transferring or streaming files into iTunes or VLC.
