Summary: The Gdrive mini is an excellent external hard drive but it will not work with most under-powered USB slots without this plug in power supply. If you buy a G-Drive mini, purchase this also, as you will need it,,otherwise the G-Drive Mini may just Blink and "beep" at you without working Mr Burke
Summary: Bought this because of the low price. While it's formatted for mac os you can reformat this for windows (NTFS) os. After doing some googling on the web I was able to reformat this without jumping through too many hoops. Be advised that reformatting takes several hours. Also it's not usb 3, but usb 2. Set up 3 partitions for backups from my 3 computers. 750 gbs for less than $50, good deal!
Summary: You can't tell from the misleading product description because this most crucial fact is buried in the "more information" section of the product "demo," but this device will NOT work with a windows machine. The actual product package has the words "for Apple MacBook" prominently displayed, so I can't fault the manufacturer, but of course Rakuten.com did not show an image of the package. I cannot believe how dishonest the seller was about this item!
Summary: I'm using it on PCs rather than Macs, so I had to reformat the original GPT partitions and reset the drive as an MBR setup. I could have left it as GPT and just remade the large partition, but one of the machines I'm using this with is much older & is running XP which does not recognize GPT partitions. So, it had to completely come off. In both Firewire 400 & USB 2.0 mode it averaged about 25 Mb/s transfers.
Summary: I had seen G-Drives that people were using in Apple Stores. Beautiful, Mac-matching design, sleek & slim. Perfect to go with my MacBook Air. I can live just fine with this USB 2.0, 1TB drive at under $100 including tax. Very happy with it!
