Summary: This is holding up well after having if for some time. It stores my entire video archive after almost 5 years of shooting; I wouldn't dare say anything bad about it. And the price was reasonable compared to the faster, newer thunderbolt version.
Summary: You gotta love the styling on these drives. Heavy and solid feeling the drive is a pleasure to handle. I love the eSATA connection -- very fast -- G-Raid claims up to 200 MB/sec which I do not doubt. Okay, fine, a single solid state drives can now do up 500 MB/sec but you're not getting 2 TB! Still a cost effective way to get fast storage and if I had more money I would have bought an even larger capacity.
Summary: I bought this drive for a project and it worked great until a few days ago. Its like the drive had a calendar to break down a few days after warranty expires. i was using the drive and it started getting slow. Restarted the computer and the drive didn't mount ever again. only pops up a window with option to eject or initialize. i took it to a specialist and he said the drives inside were physically damaged and to recover the data would cost $3000 and a week for results.
Summary: So I purchased this drive against my better judgement almost a year ago. I checked their webpage, and they stated a "3-yr warranty" on this model drive. I decided to get one thinking if it went bad, the company would replace it. I was wrong. Mine started giving me error messages, and DiskUtility on Mac OS said that the drive could not be repaired. This, after less than a year of use.
Summary: Endless problems with this model, taken it back to the store twice to recover footage, I give up, my last G Drive I'll buy. It's less then a year old, so hopefully the manufacturer will replace it, as the seller said I need to go to manufacturer, they can't help me. I bought a Lacie d2 Quadra, hoping it will be better then the G-Raid, which will cost my $800 to recover footage, twice the price of my actual cost of the harddrive, crazy!
Summary: If you looking for hard drive that's going to last this is the one. Professionally built I'm running on my Web server and it runs great. Only one complaint that I have is at the white light at the bottom of the G in the front of the hard drive is a little too bright. I just put something in front of it or I can put tape over to make it dimmer but other than that I'm not to give it one less store just for that. This is on 24/7 going to see how long it holds up!
