Summary: These backup drives always fail sooner or later so be sure to back up your backup. I have my best music, photos and files backed up on THREE external drives plus some stuff on cd's and dvd's. If your stuff is worth keeping, back it up twice at least. Buffalo seems like a very reliable brand so far.
Summary: This is the third drive of this model I have purchased. All work fine, are well built and exquisite design. A blue light tells you it is on, otherwise you would never know it was. These drives make sense for me (and this size) as I'm starting to find my computers are not lasting as long as they used to last. Keeping my iTunes music on one of these makes it easy to transfer to a new computer when the time comes, and/or taking to work to have my files with me.
Summary: there is little worse than having a high capacity ext. hard drive that is still using usb 2.0. backing up your data can literally take days depending on how much you are copying. all my devices now have usb 3.0 and the speed difference is like night and day. whether you get this drive or another usb 3.0 just do it. make certain to have a usb 3.0 cable as well or else the drive will default back to slower usb 2.0 speeds.
Summary: my son loves it the easy set up and the security 10 thumbs up yes i would recomend this and im going back for one for me great gife for those with lab tops or just for back up its nice knowing your stuff is safe
Summary: Great drive for my needs, which is as an off-site backup for my home computer. I have a 750GB drive for weekly backups, then copy the image over to this little baby and keep it in a safe deposit box. It's fast, and has given me no problems.
Summary: Dropped it less than two feet, landed on a soft carpet, and died. Don't even bother buying this garbage. All it does now is click and whirr and chirp these sad little death knells at me. The computer won't even register its presence.
Summary: exactly as described, easy installation, easy to use, however it was necessary to manually turn off the utility after installation or it continually runs trying to back up data even when the drive is unconnected...
