Cons: I bought 3 of these, and one of them failed 37 days after I bought it. I was using it as a scratch disk for Final Cut Pro X, so I lost a lot of work. I would recommend that you don't buy one of these.
Summary: I was looking for an external HDD pre formatted in FAT32 to use in both of Mac and Win and found this one saying "Preformatted in FAT32 for compatibility with both PC and Mac". But this actually is not pre formatted in FAT32 but in NTFS! If you need to use HDD in both of Mac and Win but don't want to reformat it by yourself, don't buy this one.
Summary: Well, this is the first time I have purchased a Buffalo product, and it will also be my last. I've had other brands of hard drives. What I was hoping for was one that I could just plug in, maybe click a couple buttons, and it would back up my hard drive. Nope! First off, this has a lot of miscellaneous software that it wants you to install. You don't have to, but it all says "Buffalo", so I installed several of them. So far, I don't see even one that was useful.
would not pass laugh test if it were Apple product

Summary: software causes me more problems than it's worth. Backup utility stuck, worked hard to eradicate it off my system. What I wanted was blank storage space. No need for backup utility: theirs is a bust. I had to use Windows backup anyway. It's copying utility took over even though it offers nothing over built-in XP app. In summary, software is use-unfriendly and intrusive without offering benefit.
Summary: Just to clarify my rating this device is not a bad device it works fine but the product review is incorrect in stating that it comes preformatted in FAT32. I ordered this device once before and it came formatted in NTFS I am trying to back up my PS3 and need a device preformatted in FAT32 because when you reformat it using windows it can only create 32GB partitions and my hard drive is 500GB.
Summary: I had this hard drive and used it with no problems for around 4 months, but then it started playing up and eventually died. I lost a lot of information I can't get again. This was my first external hard drive, so I'm not sure if this is a common problem with other external hard drives too...... I've since bought some passport hard drives and I'm hoping they will last me a lot longer.
Summary: I bought this drive at the end of July 2012. I used the utility software supplied. It formatted the drive to FAT32. This is not recommended for modern systems, so I asked Windows 7 to format the disk as NTFS, the recommended format for Windows 7 machines. It said it was not possible, so I left it as FAT32 and started to use it. Every time it booted it asked to be scanned or formatted, which was a pain.
Summary: This was a fine little drive that I was quite happy with, happy backing up all my stuff for just over a year... It waits until the warranty expires, then decides to fail and will not read at all. Shame, as it was all looking so promising....
Summary: Leider ein Fehlkauf.
