Summary: .A good Desktop hard drive. I have one. It holds a world of information. I bought it for good friends that will be putting many slides of the trips they took around the world. The may need another one in the future to hold all the pictures they have taken.
Summary: I got this several years ago to help provide some redundancy to my backups. Hard drives are poor backup devices but you do what you have to do. It worked great and I traveled with it quite a bit. I should note that I did have some issues with some computers connecting via eSATA but (especially earlier) eSATA devices are not known for being 100% Plug & Play and the issues could have been from the PC or the drive. Anyway, it died a few moths ago.
Summary: So far this device has performed without issue. I bought it because it has so many interface options. The prices doubled during the HDD shortage last year preventing me from buying another one. However, the prices have come back down. I think it came with some backup software that I did not like. I just use a .bat backup script that works just fine.
Summary: The first time I used this drive I thought, wow, that is loud. That's gonna take some getting used to. Three months later, I'm still not used to it. Time to move on. When the drive powers up there's a nauseating, explosive whine like a puppy being kicked. Still makes me jump. When it's transferring data it sounds like a shopping cart full of beer cans being pushed fast down a bad stretch of busted-up sidewalk.
Summary: Wow, I am so surprised that so many people have had issues with their version of this drive :( I've had my 1TB unit for about 4 years now and I love the thing...I also love the fact that it has FW 400, USB 2 and FW 800 all together (I have some older equipment). I will happily give this product 5 stars, as it has been a faithful friend backing up my old work and being used as a scratch disc for Final Cut Pro, but after reading all of the negative reviews, I am def.
Summary: Bought this drive from Fry's Electronics thinking I was getting a great deal for a 1TB Firewire 800 external HDD, boy was I wrong! This drive after less than a year would constantly choose not to show up as readable on any of my macs. I would have to restart the drive and my computer several times just to get anything to work from time to time. Now after a year it is almost dead and barely manges to work.
Summary: When starting up, it makes lots of noise. Afterwards, it makes a continuous humming noise. This at 10cm away. When you are 1.5 meters away, its not audible, and when a TV or PC sound is running, the drive noise fades away into the background. Regarding the design, its really beautiful. the front has a reflective finishing, and this drive perfectly matches the current Apple mac line-up. I do not recommend this if you are a writer and this drive will be close by.
Summary: This is my first Amazon product review and the only reason I'm writing this is because I hope to warn people away from this terrible product! I bought four of these drives and they all failed! And failed quickly. They were only used to back up projects on so it wasn't like they had a lot of hours on them. Still, complete piles of junk. The only thing a Buffalo hard drive is good for is a casing to put your other internal drives into and even that..
