Pros: First, the package comes with everything necessary to get going. The duplicator and power cord obviously, but it also has the USB cable and the SATA cable so that you can use it however you desire. It is easy to set up, and easy to use. I have utilized it as a backup drive and as a duplicator. I also have a Tt model and am just as happy with this unit. Obviously the true test of durability will come with time, but so far it seems well built and made to last. I would r...
Cons: There are no major issues. A couple of minor observations - and this is being critical. The size of the unit is large - that is to say that its footprint is large, especially when compared to similar competitors models. But, that has nothing to do with function. Then, the stick on rubber pieces which protect the bottom came off during the initial setup of the unit and had to be resecured. I was a bit scared that this was an early indication of quality (or lack therof)...
Pros: Copies without hooking up to a computer. Use it as a docking station to save your images for backups. I never bother with reviews that complain about silly things like bright blue lights, and its made of plastic. When you dont have any lights then complain. Worked great for me right out of the box, copied a failing 320 GB laptop hard drive over to a new 750 GB drive with ease. Then I went into Administrative Tools, computer management, disc management, and extended the...
Summary: * Yes, the LED's are really, really, bright.
Pros: * Very well made for the price (purchased on a Black Friday deal for about half the usual rate).
Cons: * Like all these 'enclosure-less' devices, a fast/high power drive *will* overhead without forced air cooling. Even 'low power' drives like WD green series can have issues. An extra fan blowing on the disks is a must. SSD's and 2.5" HD's aren't a problem.
Pros: Fanatastic - I usually do not write reviews on products but I have to say that this duplicator was amazing - simple and efficient - I used to dupe my HP Smartmedia WHS System drive - pop it in at night and next morning all done - 7 hrs for 2 TB - way easier than the usual way to switch your system drive n the WHS - I am sure it will work for Win 7 etc
Pros: I first I thought I had a bad unit because the LED for the source HDD (HDD 2) wouldn't light. Then I had an Aha! moment and tried reseating the drive (after powering off the unit of course.) That did it. The cloning went flawlessly and I've been running the clone for a couple of days now. Great product. I did see advice that the drives got hot during cloning so I put a small fan next to the unit which dissipated the heat very well.
Cons: The drives don't feel like they are locked in so keep your 6 year old away from it during the cloning process like I had to do.
Pros: See my glowing review dated 6/5/12. Worked great and was incredibly useful for the 100 or so days before it failed.
Cons: Again, see my review dated 6/5/12 for additional details. The new CON (one of the very few) is that it failed in less than 120 days. It powers up, but it makes unusually harsh noises trying to read the drive, and then it goes through a continuous cycle of various lights flashing and the drive letter appearing in Windows for about 1 second and then it vanishes, then the process repeats. It seems incapable of properly reading/loading the drive now, in either or both of ...
Pros: Makes exact copies as promised. No PC needed.
Cons: Target and source drive locations aren't identified, only Drive 1&2. Six months from now when you want to do a clone and you can't locate the instruction manual your out of luck. I placed writeable tape on each drive bay identifying it as SOURCE and TARGET.
Pros: Copied failing drive, with no problem. Copied quickly and worked cloning an 80GB to 250GB, no issues - no problem. Item is made of plastic, as expected. The price was worth just this single use alone. Note: you will need to resize the partitions to the full size of the drive after the copy proceedure, if you are experience - it will not be a problem.
Summary: This is perfect for us as we use a lot of these toasters to move files from a processing computer to a backup. This unit is a bonus as it can hold 2 drives so we can move things from one drive to another without having to plug in 2 toasters. The real bonus is that it can duplicate a hard drive. This is fantastic for backing up vital computer OS drives. There is one down side it will only go from smaller to same or larger.
