Pros: WYSIWYG. Drive is securely held to PC board with 4 screws.
Cons: eSATA port was DOA straight out of the box. Plastic front cap has poor fastener design and pops right off at any more than a slight touch. Plastic rear cap screws can be easily mis-aligned tough they appear correct. Requires 2 USB ports to deliver adequate current supply to some hard drives.
Pros: The NexStar 3 case is solid and reliable. I own 6 of them in various models, which I use to recycle old laptop drives as external backup drives. They have always worked perfectly, and I have never had a problem with any of them.
Cons: The Newegg image shows a carrying case. My most recent drive arrived without one, and it is no longer on the list of package contents on the outside of the box. I now need to find another storage solution.
Summary: After reading the other reviews I decided to choose this enclosure, and I am not disappointed!!! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to give life to an extra hard drive.
Pros: Hard drive mounting feels secure. After assembling, just plugged into laptop and it found and installed drivers instantly. Worked perfectly and allowed me to finally use the hard drive from my fried laptop!
Cons: Nothing bad to say about this product, unless you are OCD about fingerprints, in which you should probably keep wipes around since the glossy case attracts them. Not worth taking off an egg.
Summary: I do recommend though that if your using a drive similar to the one I'm using or a SSD that you should use an enclosure that supports USB 3.0 for the super speed R/W rates that they can handle. I'm only using this one until I get my USB3 enclosure in.
Pros: I've had this enclosure since March of 2010 so it's over three years old and this little enclosure is still performing as it should. In fact what's really awesome is it's rated at accepting a maximum of 750GB and I just installed a Seagate Solid State Hybrid (ST1000LM014) 1TB 64MB Cache 2.5" SATA...
Cons: I really don't have any complaints about this enclosure.
Summary: I have two of these that have gone though several airports, been dropped on concrete from 2 feet up several times now, and slightly abused due to rapidly packing and unpacking. They do get warm, but putting another metal object or a heatsink on top of it helps get heat off the case.
Pros: It works as intended. Usb and eSATA and a place for a plug if you can find one to fit it (or modify it for something you have)
Cons: Nothing to complain about, works with Western Digital and Seagate drives with no issues.
Summary: I am sure this is not new eggs fault just poor workmanship on Vantec part or poor QC checking also never got the carry bag everyone is talking about
Pros: looks nice worked great wile it lasted it worked fine and was a great way to back up system wile it lasted
Cons: well I ordered a new one this morning as the led cover just fell off 3 days after I got mine .this morning the usb 2.0 shorted out and the whole thing stopped working I ordered a another one maybe this one will last more then 20 days
Summary: would have been nice enclosure if it did not fall apart the back just fell off and usb 2.0 does not seem to want to work unless u wiggle cord all the time
Pros: I like this little enclosure very simple to use and does what I need it to been using it to back up system when it worked
Cons: only had a little over a month and noticed today the cover where it covers the led fell out today and I have to play with the cord to get it to work right or it cuts off ?? I guess I will be contacting Vantec about this one might have just slipped through QC check
Summary: I boot into linux using external hard drives from various hardware at various office locations. The machines have esata ports but may not have enough available usb ports to supply power.
Pros: Light weight, looks cool. usb and esata do work.
Cons: power adapter fail. I needed to run this as an esata external drive without usb power available. So, I bought the power adapters on secondary market that were advertised to work with the device. They were awful. So, It would have been really nice if Vantec would produce reliable power adapters th...
