does what's written on the tin

Karen D., Newegg
29 June 2015
  • Summary: We have an enterprise wide encryption system that is only compatible with usb 2.0. I hope they keep making these!
  • Pros: Simple, reliable, inexpensive backup solution. Perfect for situations where you specifically need a usb 2.0 hard drive enclosure.
  • Cons: Like all desktop hd enclosures, it requires its own wall plug. Storing hard disks like books on a shelf is less convenient than a dedicated NAS, but appropriate for data you will rarely need to access.

work but very slow transfer

rene-claude v., Newegg
20 November 2014
  • Pros: Work with no problem. I use my old computer internal hard disk very easy to put de hard disk in the box.
  • Cons: I don't know is it is normal but the transfer speed is 23mb/s. So it is very slow. My hard disk is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,3.5" (ST3250823AS) Hard Drive It's really a pain to transfer

Great external enclosure!

Jessie M., Newegg
21 August 2014
  • Summary: Works as described, I'm very happy with the purchase!
  • Pros: This is exactly what I needed and has performed very well. Newegg shipping was great as always. Tested with a 250gb WD and a 1TB Seagate.
  • Cons: The led lights scared me thinking they wouldn't fir back into the case. I bent one of them just a little to be sure with no problems. Just be careful.

  • Summary: Shipping from Newegg ROCKS!!!
  • Pros: SUPER FAST shipping by Newegg (as always). Ordered on Tuesday afternoon, and received Wednesday morning at 10AM!!! Hard drive installation was simple, although the instructions on what screw to use where was unclear, but as I am a genius, I figured it out :)
  • Cons: None so far

Not all large drives supported

Derek D., Newegg
1 April 2014
  • Summary: I have 3 of these enclosures. The first two have 2 TB drives and work fine. The latest I bought with a 3 TB Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 and this drive does not work in the enclosure.
  • Pros: Low cost, working great with 2 TB drives. No fan, but drives stay cool.
  • Cons: Does not work with all drives > 2 TB

Nice with some minor flaws

Jason G., Newegg
8 February 2014
  • Summary: Definitely an easy install and a very nice enclosure for the price.
  • Pros: Sleek, good looking case. Comes with everything that you need to install the drive. Does not use those massive brick style plugs and has an off/on switch on the back of the case. Dual LEDs on the front (green) indicate power. Aluminum construction and tight fit should result in greater heat dissi...
  • Cons: Cheap screws that can strip easily. USB cable short compared to power cable. Screw holes to secure the front of the drive did not line up well. I was still able to attach the drive, but the included screws didn't seat properly. It's not like the drive will fall out, but it did annoy me.

Functional external enclosure with a compromise

Danielle R., Newegg
26 August 2013
  • Summary: Overall this drive enclosure will work for its intended purpose if you are willing to compromise and take care with your own workmanship. The power switch does allow for drive ejection and power down to swap out same type drive enclosures.
  • Pros: - Solid extruded aluminum construction - Snug fitting foot for vertical placement on a desk - Has a power switch on the back - Includes extra screws for back cover - Compact, protective, external SATA design - provides a good heat sink for warmer running drives
  • Cons: - two front mounting holes do not align with drive - screws are of poor quality - USB cable is only 3-feet long (36 in.)

Great Enclosure

ROLF T., Newegg
20 August 2013
  • Summary: All in all I am very satisfied with this enclosure. It looks great, it's small and it functions as advertised. For $30 you can't go wrong with this enclosure.
  • Pros: This enclosure has a very sleek and modern design. It is made from brushed aluminum giving the HDD all the protection you could ever want out of the price range. It also features two LED power/usage lights. The box comes with everything you need to get your HDD into the enclosure. It also comes w...
  • Cons: The inside is very cramped. The HDD will fit in but make sure everything is secured down tight. I would've liked USB 3.0 but I still get speeds of upwards of 20 mb/s.

Good for what I needed

Aaron L., Newegg
25 July 2013
  • Summary: if you just need a case to have an external drive this case is worth it for the price i paid.
  • Pros: Nice design, worked well mostly and comes with a easy to use stand.
  • Cons: One LED went out quickly not a big deal. Bigger problem is that on one of my drives it fails to register on my PC as existing when I put it inside yet works fine on a friends PC when placed internally into it. Not a huge deal however only enough to drop it down 1 egg.
