The device features a 7 inch Gray Scale (16 level gray scale), 600 x 1024 pixels resolution display that is supported by E Ink® Pearl technology. Measuring 7.87 x 5.04 x 0.38 inches and weighing 9.6 oz, the Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-950SC supports DRM Text ePub (Adobe DRM protected), PDF (Adobe DRM protected), BBeB Book (PRS DRM protected), Text, RTF; JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP; MP3 (Non encrypted) and AAC (Non encrypted); ePub, BBeB Book, PDF, TXT, RTF and Micrsoft® Word media format. It has a 2GB dual memory card expansion slots for Memory Stick Duo™ and SD Card up to 32GB, and 3G Mobile Broadband WiFi.

Compatible with the Reader Daily Edition™, the device allows users to subscribe to newspaper content and daily updates at the Reader Store. It also features a built-in web browser that allows users immediate access to websites such as Wikipedia and Google to find additional information and a search function that lets them look up words in the built-in two English dictionaries, including The New Oxford American Dictionary, Second Edition and Oxford Dictionary of English, and 10 translation dictionaries. Users can also transfer eBooks and charge their Reader Daily Edition™ using a single high-speed USB (USB 2.0 compliant) cable. It comes with the Intuitive Reader™ Library software that helps with download of eBooks, managing collection, and transferring titles to the Reader Daily Edition™. Users can carry up to 50,000 books at a time. The Reader Daily Edition™ features the E Ink® Pearl technology anti-glare touch screen that is fully readable in direct sunlight.
