Excerpt: Got this as a christmas gift. Not impressed. thought it would be a smaller, cheaper version of my husband's Kindle. Not so. First, it is a smaller screen (5in vs 6in). To aging eyes this makes a big difference. It doesn't have the keyboard to search for items like a Kindle. Just not as many features. On the positive - it is smaller and more portable. If your library has books you can get on it that would be a positive. Our library does not.
Summary: I received this Sony reader for Christmas and at first I loved it. It was easy to hook up and install the software. Google has a plethora of free books, however they are none copyrighted books so they are classics. Otherwise, you can buy books at regular book store prices. The device itself is simple to use and easy to navigate. Otherwise, I can't o stand this reader. It's hard to charge and then when it is charged, it never keeps it's charged.
Mac OS 10.7 Lion, does not support 32 bit devices like this one

Summary: I bought this item two years ago and used it happily, sort of, until recently. I began to have trouble syncing the reader a few months back. The process just got hinky. Sony telephone support helped me get it straightened out - last time. This morning, I hooked the reader up to my iMac and the Sony reader software simply refused to recognize the ebook reader - at all. There was an "error" where "reader" should have been in the list of sources.
Summary: I owned the orignial eReader PRS500 and I loved it although the Sony website for books has always been cumbersome and difficult. I had to "upgrade" to this model because their format changed and boy am I ever sorry! When I first received it I got a defective one and almost lost my mind with customer no-service that wanted to send me a different color. After 3 weeks I finally got the right thing, but it's a total pain.
Summary: I bought this model on black Friday at Walmart for $99.00 so I could take it to Hawaii for a three week vacation. I loaded a dozen free books from the google site and thought I was good to go. Wrong!! This thing is definitely NOT user friendly. The little user guide only covers how to operate it in general terms and it takes a long, long time until you figure out how to navigate thru it's menu, download books, etc.
Summary: so i bought this because of the USB support, its great that i can put any PDF on it but the image quality is sometimes really bad. if its not a text formatted PDF it doesn't always turn out well. the zoom levels leave some to be desired and overall the screen is to small for constant reading. i am a college student that got this to read class book exerts and other things and am trying to figure out how i can buy a kindle instead.
Summary: You can't just put it down without turning it off like other readers or the battery dies very quickly. The battery like is poor even if you turn it off but battery performance is still disappointing even after turning it of. The e-paper display technology used is either a poor design unlike the kindel and it draws power while the print is static or there is some other poor engineering reason for the power draw while idle.
Summary: I bought this Sony PRS300 a couple of months ago, and now it started to act up. It keeps on freezing. And most of the time, both the reset button and the power button won't unfreeze the screen. Tried customer support today but were on hold for about 30 minutes. I'll try contacting them again in the next few days.
Summary: My son bought this for me for my birthday. I had been looking at a Kindle or Nook, and had read Sony had a limited but growing library available. Tonight I went through my amazon wish list of books available on the Kindle, and cross-referenced the Sony site to buy several so I could start reading. After nearly an hour of work, not one single book that Amazon has for the Kindle is available on the Sony site!
Summary: It only works with books. Doesn't work well with magazines. There is no color and color pictures show up black and white. It's black lettering on light gray background. Does not work in a dark room. My biggest complaint is that is over priced.
