Excerpt: The Kobo Aura is yet another eBook reader that is largely unknown to the book-loving masses. That could all change very soon though, as the Aura proves to be an impressive piece of hardware that handily contends with the major players in the eReader space. The device isn’t without a few glaring limitations, but overall it is worth a serious look, particularly if you have yet to spring for a dedicated eReader.
Pros: The Kobo Aura can hold roughly 3,000 titles and is one of the smallest dedicated eBook readers on the market.
Cons: Oddly, this latest version of the Aura doesn’t support periodicals and touch responsiveness can sometimes be sporadically sluggish.
Kobo Aura review: is spending $150 on an e-reader ever worth it?
5 September 2013
Summary: The Kobo Aura is the best flagship e-reader on the market. There are, however, some caveats here. First, it's still a hard sell if you're locked into Amazon, as the Paperwhite's recent tweaks have made it all the more compelling a proposition. Second, the $150 price tag makes the device decidedly not mainstream. Kobo just can't compete with Amazon's subsidized reader prices, particularly not with the Kindle's Special Offers ad model, which shaves even more off the price.
Pros: Great build quality for an e-reader, Best-in-class frontlighting, Integration with Pocket
Excerpt: The Kobo Aura is a new backlit eReader from its new owner, Rakutan. With a 6-inch E Ink panel, 212-pixel per inch display, 4GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards, the reader is ready to handle your entire eBook library plus more. According to Brian Heater of Engadget, “All told, the Aura's hardware isn't perfect, but this is easily the nicest mainstream standalone e-reader we've seen, though the $150 price tag may be a lot for all but the most devoted...
Kobo’s new mid-level Aura is as seamless an e-reader as we could want

Summary: Kobo’s $190 Aura e-reader continues the company tradition of getting out of the way of your reading. The Aura’s design is unobtrusive with some nice aesthetic cues, and the hardware is fast enough to be responsive to user input. Apart from its slightly clunky method of browsing store books, we think the Aura is a great device.
Pros: Great design and screen, Seamless e-reading experience, Reading Life awards are a nice extra
