The Kindle has potential.
31 December 2013
Summary: The Kindle has potential and software upgrades could make it better assuming it is upgradeable.
Pros: The Kindle Paperwhite is a useful product for readers. It is smaller than a book and holds a lot of reading material. The ability to save bookmarks and look up words is good. It has good battery life. It is cheaper than a large smartphone.
Cons: Full justification only., Margins of unit too large., No night reading with black background and white fonts., No simulated view of a page turning., The sales advertising excessive., Book cost not cheaper., Limited software design.
Good as a first Paperwhite, not worthy of an upgrade

Summary: This review is for the second generation Kindle Paperwhite. Like all kindle e-readers before it, this is a great product. However, I am a bit disappointed as there is not a huge improvement over last year's model. For this review, I focused on features and enhancements exclusive to the new Paperwhite and tried to make comparisons to last year's model. Also, I found somethings misrepresented or confusing in the advertising, so I will try to clear them up.
Summary: Let me start by saying, I'm all about the Kindle. I currently own a Kindle 1, Kindle 3, Kindle DXG, Kindle Touch, Kindle Fire HD 7 inch and now a Kindle Paperwhite (have also owned a Kindle 2 and the original Kindle Fire). All are in good working order. Until early last year I ran a wiki page teaching owners how to add screensavers and fonts etc. to their Kindles (you can Google my screen name to find it). I am a Kindle Fan Girl.
Excerpt: It froze once already and also it skips pages and seems to repeat pages. I think its down to how I am turning the pages or something. I am a little disappointed though as it is not as easy on my eyes as I expected. The font can be enlarged yes - but the dictionary font cannot be enlarged as it is quite small and the kindle shop reviews cannot be enlarged either. I just expected more. Should have purchased a fire I guess. This feels like I am in the stone age.
Excerpt: Brought this on a recommendation (not by Argos) for my Mother but she is unable to use it as she does not have an email account only found out you need this after opening packaging and turning it on to read the instructions.
Excerpt: Went to China, and had many books I was going to read, but the kindles screen went and died, leaving me with lines all over the page. Now I wont have my kindle for the duration of the holiday, and have to wait until I get back to UK. How disappointing.
Summary: I owned the Paperwhite for about a week before sending it back to Amazon for a refund. In many respects it is a really good product but is let down by the strangely inconsistent screen lighting. The light can sometimes appear coloured or wavy, which is very distracting when you read. It's not a problem in a well-lit room, but then you hardly need the light anyway. Ergonomically, the device is well designed for its primary purpose of reading.
Pros: Touch interface is very responsive; navigation is quick and intuitive; simple and uncluttered design.
Cons: Light is blotchy and uneven when turned down in a dark room
Pros: Amazon!
