Excerpt: The Kindle 4 came at a great price, so how could I say no? I was happy with the screen resolution, the built in 3G internet, and the size and weight meant I could take it anywhere. Which was exactly the problem. I had 3 of these and the screen on each one broke within a few weeks, even though I was very careful.
Excerpt: I bought a Kindle because I was really surprised to find how easy it was to read and how much it felt like reading a regular book. I travel a lot, so that's a plus - no books to lug! BUT, i bought the "promo" version, which means it displays ads all the time. They don't really eat the battery life, but they are kind of annoying.
Excerpt: i like to check out some of the books that amazon allows me to "borrow" as part of their lending library. this is a nice ereader. it does what i need it to when i need it. i like the features that it has and i like the fact that i can use this outside in the bright sun.
Excerpt: No need for this item. Get a tablet, use ibooks. why would anyone buy a stand alone book device these days? Maybe for children? Kindle Fire is better. Sorry I bought this and gave several as gifts. Nothing actually wrong with the item, though not the easiest to use compared to an iPad.
Excerpt: I like the size and weight, perfect for carrying in my purse. I also like the ease of obtaining books. I'm not crazy about the fact that there's no light, but I understand the newer version is backlit, which would help. I rarely charge mine, and it turns off automatically to save battery life. Most libraries now even offer kindle books for free reading! Again, I wish there was a lighting component. It's a bit hard to navigate through the menus/options at first.
Excerpt: I just got my Amazon Kindle 4 for Christmas last year. As someone who is over 40 years old, I have a very hard time seeing on this product. It is just too dim. I suppose it is a good starter, but If I had it to do over, I'd have educated myself abt the differences.
Excerpt: Everyone knew the kindle before even the ipad and I like this because prices have fallen quite a bit, it is very professional looking and I've been able to find the books I want, to read on the kindle. The battery lasts long and it saves you the effort of holding a open book on the train! I recommend it.
Excerpt: The Amazon Kindle 4 is one of the most basic versions of e-readers available today. It is black and white, does not include the touchscreen, and can be difficult to navigate sometimes, but does offer a great alternative to the "old fashioned bookshelf" and clutter that can accumulate. I like the reader because: it is very thin and durable. There is no backlighting which means it is hard to read in the dark, but super easy to read outside in normal sunlight.
Excerpt: My sister bought one of the earliest Kindles and convinced me to buy one too . I am a voracious reader and really prefer my books in hardcover form but the kindle is a decent alternative to carry on the go reading material or to free up space on your book shelves . The latest Kindle Fire seems to offer SO much more than just a basic e - reader and will probably replace this one soon as its function is fairly limited .
Summary: Actually, I didn't use it that much before I sold it. It seemed like a decent enough product for the price. Screen was easy to read. My main dislike was that it didn't have a touch screen. I sold it because I got a great deal on a Nook color.
