Playlist Amazon Kindle (second generation)

Macworld
21 December 2009
  • Excerpt: (1 items) At half the thickness of Amazon’s first e-book reader, the second-generation Kindle is pretty inviting—it’s a, sleek, curved tablet that you can easily hold in your hands. But while Amazon has made some successful enhancements to its e-book reader, other tweaks fall flat or miss the mark entirely. And the company has done little to advance the gadget beyond its single trick: reading digital books. In the e-book universe, the Kindle retains a significant edge.
  • Pros: Lets you buy and download e-books wirelessly, Improved screen text and a slimmer profile compared to first generation Kindle
  • Cons: Need to use menu to disable wireless, Joystick nav and buttons are stiff and awkward

Hardware Secrets

  • Summary: The design improvements in the Kindle 2 are excellent, overcoming most of the shortcomings . The slick design is a real winner. The loss of the memory card slot does not detract much from its use. However, the lack of the user replaceable battery will shorten the life of the device and/or add to the cost of continued use. Also, the lack of the carrying case without any reduction in price is regrettable.

  • Conclusion: If you're an avid reader of books, the Kindle 2 and eBook readers in general make sense. If you were intrigued by the original Kindle but didn't warm to a device that was hit with an ugly stick, the Kindle 2 is a dream. It's great looking, slim and like the Kindle 1 and Sony 505 it has a wonderful screen for reading.

LAPTOP Magazine
26 February 2009
  • Summary: The first Kindle was a little too bulky for our tastes, but the Kindle 2 is a vast improvement both in terms of usability and design. Amazon is missing many popular books, and its magazine selection is a bit thin at the moment, but overall, content selection is quite good, and there’s certainly plenty of space for storing a massive library on this sleek device. The bottom line is that—if you can afford it—the Kindle 2 looks great and works well.
  • Pros: Slimmer design with improved display, Excellent battery life, Expanded storage, Convenient built-in dictionary, Fast wireless downloads,
  • Cons: Expensive, Some popular books not available, Battery not user-replaceable,

  • Summary: The original Amazon Kindle was a gadget phenomenon in every sense of the word. The eReader took the tech world by storm, garnering high praise from various media outlets in the process. While there really was not a whole lot to complain about the first time around, it is still exciting news that Amazon is ready to release an update, filled with improvements and features that seem to come directly from the community’s wish list.
