Summary: I really wanted to like this film, but in the end my girlfriend and I just couldn't relate to Trishna. The reasoning on why she continued to go back to the destructive relationship, when she had opportunities to build her own life (in Mumbai, mainly) was never truly communicated and in the end we felt no sympathy for her worsening plight and wished for the film to just end. Disappointing.
Summary: Very watchable and Freida Pinto is great in this film. However I felt the climax to the film was too rushed, its like Michael Winterbottom forgot 3 quarters of the way through that the film is supposed to be based on Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Could have been a lot better but worth a watch.
Summary: Absolutely loved the film. This movie is well made and captures the story really well with the emotions that you can really connect with. Freda Pinto's acting is superb and very believeable. The scenes of Rajasthan really shows the true colours of this rich and cultural state of India. A film I would watch again!
Summary: East meets West in this gloriously shot film. It explores the clash between two cultures and shows the dangerous when love becomes a dependency and is not allowed to blossom. Woven within the story are reminders of the weaknesses of our modern society.
