Summary: This is an unusual film, but I loved it. It's about how an ageing rock star copes with mundane reality, but also about a journey he has to go on. I thought Sean Penn was great. Perhaps not for everyone, but if you like eccentric goths, road movies & Talking Heads songs, really recommend.
A terrible, terrible, pretentious disappointment - AVOID!

Summary: Having heard great things about this movie, I was shocked that it was absolute rubbish. Pretentious drivel! There seems to be a craze for this particularly brand of pretentious sh*t though... It reminded me of Lars And The Real Girl. This Must Be The Place is a totally awful boring movie and nothing happens, and my dad, who I watched it with, agreed with me. Sean Penn is also dreadful - I normally think he is good, but he tries way too hard in this film.
Summary: I found this painful to watch in HD. Sean Penn's make up and voice was nauseating. It may be just possible to watch this in double speed, but it is evidence that Paolo Sorrentino has more cash at his disposal than talent and ability.
Summary: This is marmite, I wanted to see it because it is Sean Penn, but was afraid that I would hate it - I LOVED IT! He created a character that was so far from himself, but you believe it... Try it and make your own mind up.
Summary: Slow. But slow is okay. Good even. And then at the end you think 'what a great movie'. It's certainly not for everyone, but the sentiment and voyage of discovery that the main character experiences will stay with you.
