Film review: 'The Wolf of Wall Street' has an excess of excess

Las Vegas Weekly
14 March 2014
  • Excerpt: The Wolf of Wall Street might as well open with the voice of Leonardo DiCaprio saying, “As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a bankster.” The narrative arc of DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort comes straight out of director Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, replacing gangsters with Wall Street hucksters and ending with the same disingenuous contrition from the lead character, whose only real regret is getting caught.

DVD Review: The Wolf of Wall Street

Film Guide
13 June 2014
  • Excerpt: A kind of perverted take on the rags-to-riches genre Martin Scorsese’s fable of stock broker in training turned Wall Street mogul Jordan Belfort is another film that takes a dump all over the idealised ‘American dream’ concept. As Belfort takes his unorthodox and speedy route to the top of the pile his moral and ethical seams tear asunder, his very stuffing slowly leaching out in front of him.

  • Conclusion: Scorsese's funniest and most focused film in a long time, a jet-black sex and drug-soaked comedy featuring a bravura performance by Leonardo DiCaprio.

FILMDUDE
23 January 2014
  • Excerpt: This character driven story is an amoral orgy of excess fuelled by drugs, sex... and money. While being an indictment of greed, there are no moralistic judgements; instead the white-collar criminals damn themselves. Outrageous hilarity ensues as the audience are invited to revel in unbridled decadence and debauchery.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Gamereactor
5 June 2014
  • Conclusion: Filmen: En del människor åldras inte.

The Wolf of Wall Street

CultuurBewust
6 May 2014
