Excerpt: Normally, Zeitgeist is where I turn when I want to see Mongolian films about things dying, so I was definitely intrigued to see a horror entry from the label on the menu. Tonally, it falls way out of line with the kind of movie they normally trade in, but the quality and the spirit are certainly there. The Shrine is excellent independent horror that gets it right, and I can't ask for much more.
Excerpt: The Shrine opens with a vague scene of a cult doing typically cult-ish things, torturing some poor kid in shadowy, unseen ways. Then they literally bring the hammer down on him. The movie quickly proceeds into typical territory as Marcus (Aaron Ashmore; Warehouse 13) and Carmen (Cindy Sampson; Supernatural) have the usual lover’s spat over Carmen’s typical movie-journalist drive, and her tendencies to step on everyone she knows in pursuit of a ‘big break’ story.
