  • Summary: One of the greatest war films ever made! Dickie Attenborough is at his stiff upper lipped best and Steve Mcqueen is at his coolest. Chuck in a a bunch of nazis and a few moterbike jumps and what's not to make any true Englishman more excited then a kid in a sweetshop? Rent this! it's the last thing the bosh would expect.. 'Good luck!

A Classic

Mobius, play.com
14 March 2013
  • Conclusion: "The Great Escape" is an engrossing, well-acted, and fairly accurate portrayal of the famous escape of some 76 Allied POWs from a German Stalag during World War II. You get to see the intricate detail of the escape operation--and you also get to witness its bittersweet aftermath.

  • Conclusion: this film for me stands the test of time for me as it just captures the courage of the guys (this is based on a true story with lots of extracts from the real story, obviously not the motorcycle bit) great film with an all star cast and this is one of the reasons Steve McQueen was voted the most popular actor, great film you have probably seen it already but if you are like me you wont mind watching it again

The Greatest Story ever told

MikeyB72, play.com
26 January 2013
  • Conclusion: Every bank holiday , on goes the TV, There's the Great Escape. Thing is loads of people know its on but how many really sit down to watch it start to finish. I did a few years back having turned the TV over as a kid, and I'm glad to say that I did because this for me is one of the Greatest all time films. Firstly the cast is astonishing, so many fantastic names in the same movie, its unlikely that we'll ever see another movie wth so much talent in it .
