Scream 4

DVD Verdict
4 October 2011
  • Excerpt: It's impossible to underestimate just how influential the original Scream has been on the horror genre since its release in 1996. In many ways expanding on the themes explored in the under-appreciated Wes Craven's New Nightmare , Scream combined a young, hip cast, with a deconstruction of the slasher movie that was both refreshing, scary, and blessed with a dark comic sensibility. It also did wonders for Drew Barrymore's career, thanks to a truly memorable prologue.

Movie Review: Scream 4

  • Excerpt: “I still got it!” Courteney Cox proclaims in this “screamake” of the popular ’90s slasher series. And she does! The sitcom star is the main attraction as Gale, aggressive ex-newswoman, bored wife of plodding sheriff Dewey (a comically sad-sack David Arquette ) and bestselling chronicler of those gruesome Woodsboro massacres.

Film review: 'Scream 4'

lasvegasweekly.com
13 April 2011
  • Excerpt: Scream 4 is more of the same, but in a good way. The Scream series consists of simplistic yet gory murder mysteries, driven by Kevin Williamson’s clever, grinning screenplays and Wes Craven’s crisp, sharp direction. It’s been 11 years since they phoned in Scream 3 —Williamson didn’t even bother writing that one—and even though the order for Scream 4 came down from executive producer Bob Weinstein’s desk, Craven and Williamson attack their series with renewed vigor.

  • Conclusion: A desire to Know What You Did Last Instalment is likely to be the biggest draw for Scream number four, but if this proves to be the last in the series, it’s a bloody shame it ended not with a Scream but a whimper.

FILMDUDE
14 April 2011
  • Excerpt: This instalment of the popular horror franchise reinvents the slasher genre for a savvy new audience. From the hilarious and scream-inducing opening sequence, it's clear that while the film doesn't take itself too seriously, you will definitely be in for a scare. While some of the plot twists are quite predictable, there's some fantastic dialogue and great performances from the predominantly young cast.

Scream 4
