Summary: Worth a watch although disappointing conclusion. This film highlights agonising decisions couple have to make about their uncertain future together. We were cautiously pessimistic about their long-term relationship.
Summary: A worthy attempt at capturing the madness of young love and the almost impossible task of maintaining such a relationship across a gap of thousands of miles. I found it a bit dull - the characters are not that interesting in themselves and the story - such as it is - until to comes to an unsatisfying ending.
Summary: A serious film about long distance relationships, with naturalistic performances, a quirky, yet subtle, style, effective pacing and the courage to end the film...well that would be giving it away wouldn't it. However (and it's a crucial however), wouldn't it have been a good idea to actually give the two leads a little more personality?
Summary: At no point did you feel that this guy was worth the trouble she was going to to be with him. He was very dull, with little in the way of personality or likeability, certainly not a strong enough character to believe that these two intelligent and stunningly beautiful women could be so taken with him. And what's more, it didn't feel like a truly passionate relationship.
Summary: Pretty cool chick flick movie. I'm not usually one for this type of movie but this was intricate and beautiful. It drew you into the lives of the two lovers and the pain of the visa that tore them apart.
Summary: Most films of this type I can take or leave and are instantly forgettable but there was something very different about this one. It had a level of realism that most films about relationships are missing. The behaviour of the characters was very recognisable and true to how people behave in an impossible situation, you start to fight and resent the one person you shouldn't be fighting with because there is no-one else to blame.
Excerpt: I would have given this movie a lower rating, but the actors are just so great and work so well together that I can't bring myself to give it a lower rating. It's not often you find a young cast who give such fresh performances and can convey emotions so effortlessly. When I found out the script was largely improvised I was even more impressed. Like Crazy is the tale of American Jacob and British Anna who fall in love when Anna is in the US on a student Visa.
Summary: A decent movie in the vein of Blue Valentine. Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence, and the UK chic were great together. This is another unique movie that should be checked out by true dram/romance fans. Not quite my cup of tea but still decent.
Summary: Extract from theaterofthecommonman.com With a surprising intellect, Like Crazy's plot takes the overwrought subject of complicated romance and pushes it towards a refreshing realm of bittersweet love. Director Drake Doremus's script examines the reality of a contemporary love when separated by land and sea. The relationship he unfolds does so through a well balanced mixture of personal interaction and electronic communication.
Summary: With all the big hype Oscar flicks that were released around the same time, I didn't pay a lot of attention to this film besides the fact that Jennifer Lawrence and Anton Yelchin were in it and that was enough in itself to make me check it out. Turned out for the best as I tend to get the most out of a good film I go into with no expectations. First off, Felicity Jones.
