Excerpt: Depicting Dracula, Frankenstein, the big bad wolf and all the other legends as suffering from the same dilemmas and stresses as humans, was obviously designed to offer greater perspective to the intended audience. Unfortunately these characters are likely to keep children awake at night. Despite all their human charm and sense of humour, they are still scary, particularly to look at. Undeniably, this film is entertaining, but parental guidance is necessary.
Summary: Genndy Tartakovsky’s name might not be immediately familiar, but for anyone who has tuned into the Cartoon Network in the last decade or so, the guy’s a vital presence, producing such staples such as Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack . His debut foray into feature-length animation, Hotel Transylvania is a mildly diverting piece of Tim Burton-esque Gothic comedy, though it clearly suffers from being passed through too many hands.
