Excerpt: The Florida I know (as a native) is a beautiful place full of orange groves and sunsets and quiet. There's no beach, no retirees, no people who can't work a voting machine. Generally, that part of Florida isn't too hard to avoid—just stay away from the bigger cities and the coast and you'll be okay. Then, though, you have to confront some of the weirder, less publicized aspects of the Sunshine state. One of the most interesting is the small community of Cassadaga.
