It might be rejecting the disc because the disc is corrupted or not an original copy. Try to clean you DVD recorder by inserting the CD cleaner and replay it again.

i bought this piece of junk as well. Had the same problem right away, so i took it back and exchanged it for a new one
(same model). Guess what... same problems.
I have been looking online because I figured I would find all sorts of other people complaining about it, but this thread is all I have found on the issue. I called Toshiba and they said all they can do for me is exchange it for a new one. I told the guy I didn't want a new one, I want a different one, to no avail. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"..lol. Either I just have terrible luck and got two pieces of junk in a row, or this DVD player is just a junk design, I'm more convinced of the latter. After he told me he couldn't do anything but exchange it, I told him, "well, I guess I will just throw it away to save myself the aggravation, and stop buying Toshiba electronics." Which is, I guess what I will do. I wish I had a better solution for you. I'm betting if you do a search on this player in a few months, you will find a lot of complaints.
LOL! right NOW I'm staring at "bAd" on my POS XDE-500. Ha Ha. If you want to talk to Toshiba yourself call 1-866-583-7353. But be prepaired for some stupid circular redirecting of your query. At least they have English speaking people on the end of the line.
