Question: high pitch whistle

As anyone noticed a high frequency pulse sound from their XDE500 when the unit is on standby. I am now on my third machine and all have had an high pitched whistle when in standby no matter were I plug it in. The whistle disappears when the unit is switched on

BTW, MrRobert, what do you mean by shutting it off and not standby. There is only one power button that says On/Standby.

The only way to overcome the whistle problem is to switch it off rather than put it on standby mode.

Yes, I have the same problem with my player. The sound is loud enough to be heard 10 feet away when the room is quiet. I have been leaving the disk running on the menu so the player does not turn off. I tried contacting Toshiba about the problem but other than unplugging the unit for 5 min and plugging it back in, that's all the help they can offer.
