Summary: Video quality was great. However, it stopped working after about 18 months. On average I watch about 4 hours of DVDs a week. When you insert a DVD, it spins for a while then just shows the word "bad" on the display next to disk tray.
A good replacement for my Phillips Upscaling DVD Player

Summary: Background (you can skip): I bought this originally when Circuit City was going out of business and they were basically giving these things away. I took back the one my parents got me for Christmas (it didn't have ANY of the features I was looking for), and instead bought this at an insanely low price. I've owned this player for a little over 5 months now, so I figured it was time to break out a review for it - PROS - 1.
Summary: I can't recommend this item based on my experience. It lasted a few months and about 15 plays. The problem wasn't with the electronics...but with the disc play deck itself. Very cheap plastic and components of poor quality. I have an older SONY DVD player that was one of the first on the market, and it still works after over 15 years.
Summary: Had this player for about 12 months, it took a dump and won't read discs anymore. Specifically, the motor is burned out that spins the disc. Its cheap, and you get what you pay for. Only buy this if you are some sick individual that likes to buy the same electronics every year, even things that get minimal use.
Summary: I didn't expect much for $29.95 but I'm familiar with the brand and decided to buy, also the reviews I red before buying this product are some-what correct, but if you work with it ( like when you don't get any signal out with HDMI, switch to other output and run set-up then back to HDMI )and It'll continue to work properly.
Summary: Bought this player less than a year ago and, while it plays OK, to get the tray to retract, I have to turn the unit off (which causes the tray to retract), then turn in back on again. The tray comes out OK, just won't go back in. It only cost ~$60 but I expected a Toshiba product to be of better quality.
Upconverting - Poor results - get a blu ray player for best results

Summary: I was first dazzled seeing my old dvds playing on my 32" panasonic 720p lcd monitor. And then I noticed the upconverting was terrible. There was posterization, image banding or solarization on all my disks. I think it's also called false image contouring. It's hard to describe, but as you go from one shade of color to the next, it should be smooth, but posterization will show one shade of color and then a next shade lighter or darker in it's own separate band and so on...
