  • Excerpt: I "bought" it with my American Express membership reward points about a year ago.
  • Pros: VCR works
  • Cons: DVD not progressive scan. It will randomly freeze during playbacks like a timed bomb.

"Flat Screen Folks are unknowningly Ripped Off."

CNET
15 September 2004
  • Pros: First off, people who buy Flat Screen TVs do not know that such technology is seriously flawed. Flat screens look nasty by nature. It's too bad Sony no longer sells the older TVs, because they do look better with a DVD player than the newer tvs...! Toshi
  • Cons: At times, if a dirty DVD comes along, I half to stop it and clean it with Anti-Bacterial liquid soap. That usually does the trick. Otherwise, I love the remote...it does the job.

"Awesome DVD Player that can be easily hacked to play All Region DVDs and PAL"

CNET
17 June 2004
  • Pros: I haven't had a single problem with the player yet. It plays all my DVDs without problems. I played CDRs and DVDRs without hassle. There is a simple 1-time hack to make the player a region-free player. PAL discs play pretty good. Picture quality, sound, e

"Easily converted into a region free player!"

CNET
4 June 2004
  • Pros: This is a great player for the money. It can easily be converted into a region free player capable of playing any region DVDs, including PAL discs. PAL conversion is done through the player. Picture quality is quite good and it has proven to be a reliable
  • Cons: Terrible remote! Unfortunately the remote layout is not the best. Also the player lacks a time remaining feature.

"Does the basics"

CNET
12 May 2004
  • Pros: For the most part, I have had no trouble playing store bought DVDs. Picture and sound are both good and it works well with my 57" Toshiba widescreen.
  • Cons: Have had problems with recordable media. Some CD-Rs don't work and can't get DVD-Rs to work at all. MP3 player works sometimes, but leaves alot to be desired. No way to get file name, ID3 data, ect. And as the CNet review says, has problems with conce

"Worked well... for one year"

CNET
22 April 2004
  • Pros: Easy to use; Great picture with component video on a regular tube tv.
  • Cons: Product stopped reading certain dvd's after about a year. Now it is not reading any. It did get a lot of use, but i did expect slightly better quality coming from toshiba. Going to just upgrade and get a higher quality unit from Denon. That's my 3rd $
