Summary: When our 5-disk CD player finally conked out, we replaced it with this slick DVD/CD player. As a DVD player it works just fine, but I doubt most people are looking to shuffle between 5 DVDs. Like us, most people are looking for it to do double duty as the home's primary CD player as well. If so, you might be disappointed. Two big problems: (1) It is too slow in scanning CDs and responding to commands.

Summary: Having great experiences with a Toshiba SD2700 DVD player, I thought the SD2715 would make a great secondary unit. Within a day, it became my primary DVD player, and the 2700 was off to the basement TV. It has shown massive stuttering on "Black Hawk Down" - hoping it is a bad rental copy. Plays "The Matrix" with no problems - usually a litmus test for cheap decoders in cheap players. Hopefully an isolated event. I'll amend the review with an update.
Summary: the toshiba sd2715 5 disc dvd player, is the best player to date for a family with a 5 year old who is very adept at electronics. ... It takes a max of 10 - 20 seconds tyo load a dvd. Personally i would rather have a 5 to 20 sec wait rather than have to clean or skip a disc. I would give this player a 10 of 10.My son continues to push this unit to the edge with not only sticky fingers but scratched discs and all do great!!!!!
Summary: After the player arrived, it was set up and ready to run in only a few minutes. Then I put in a dvd. Talk about slow. It seemed to take more time to start the disc than it took to hook up the system. When the movie finally did start, I was delighted. The sound and picture quality were excellent. I found the remote to be very easy to use, and the zoom control was fun to play with. Then I put in a second movie, Disney's "Atlantis", and the player would not read the menu.
Summary: I'm more of an audophile than a videophile so the CD handling was important and thus the reason for the carousel. Sound quality is quite good for this level of player with transparent highs and nicely filled out harmonics in the bass range. My quibble is with the carousel. Unless you select the repeat mode, it only plays one disk and stops. So every time I load cd's I must press repeat twice to get it to go through all the disks.
Summary: First I would like to say if you have this player do not buy a Yamaha reciever to go with it. If you do get a new DVD player or at least the firmware upgrade. What happens is this. If you use digital sound it will make popping noises when switching between menus ..very annoying. Also after the firmware upgrade I have now had some srious problems with this player skipping scenes...also very annoying. Also, can you say slow?
Summary: The first DVD I put in (Lost City of Atlantis from Disney) only brought up the commercials, and never went past that (the menu button just brought us back to the beginning of the commercials at the beginning of the DVD). I also did not understand why my other Toshiba (2109) played the same DVD fine, and this one not only did not load the movie, but the picture was crunched, kind of like widescreen but on the opposite side of the screen (the sides were scrunched...
Summary: We are delighted with this unit. I have not any major problems and find it quite easy to use. In fact, my 11 year-old son set it up within 15 minutes and we have been going strong since. We esepcially like the fast forward, zoom, and slow motion options with our favorite movies. CDs have played perfectly. I am not keen on the bland video display when playing audio disks. I would prefer an option to blank it out in some way.
