Summary: I like this unit very much, It also Upconverts DVD. It's a shame they discontinued HD DVD, because they have great clarity and good performance. I own this HD DVD player and a Playstation 3, which I use to play Blue Ray movies and seriously, I can't tell the difference.
Summary: Picked 2 of these up at Sams Club for $68.00 each. With the free cable and 2 HD movies they pretty much gave me the player. Have had no problems with playing disc's whatsoever. Even plays my old DVD+R disc's. Standard DVD's look terrific and as soon as I upgrade to HDMI on my TV I will see what the upconversion looks like. Unit will not upconvert through the component output's. No regrets yet.
Summary: I made the mistake of buying one of these for Christmas, only to have Toshiba and the rest of the industry declare the HD format dead weeks later. What a waste of money for myself and the others who poured cash down the HD-DVD money drain. I should have known better than to spend my cash before the format war ended. Toshiba has announced that they are getting out of the next generation DVD player business.
Summary: Comes with a 6' HDMI cable, 2 HD movies in the box and a mail in coupon for 5 more HD disks. I downloaded firmware version 1.3 from the Toshiba website, burned a CD and popped it in before I played any DVD's. It automatically detected the new firmware and loaded it. I have since played both old and new disks. No problems at all. Would recommend.
Summary: I picked this up when it was on sale for around $150. It also came with 10 movies. So far I have had no problems. The HD movies are really nice. It also makes regular DVD's look really good too. I'm actually thinking of buying another if the price is right.
Summary: I also experienced the same problem about pauses and delayed audio at the middle part of the movie, but all it needed was firmware upgrade. I called toshiba to request the disc for upgrade and i got it within a week. In my opinion, there is no visual difference between 1080i and full hd. It comes with hdmi cable, and it did its job, you do not have to buy an expensive one.
Summary: This model HD-D3 is the Costco version of the HD-A3...It's identical. I had the same problems with this model as the previous reviewer did. I hooked my unit up to the internet via the ethernet port and downloaded the firmware update. It was a very large update. Following that upgrade, the unit worked perfectly. The only problem I have with HD DVD players in general are the disk themselves. They must be perfectly clean before you view.
