Pros: Low price, high build quality, good looks. Better disc compatibility and quicker load times than the third gen (A3,A30,A35) players. Comes with the better remote too. Has S-Video out, snazzy flip down front faceplate covers all the buttons. Makes regular DVDs look fantastic via HDMI and upscaler ...
Cons: Newegg doesn't double box, so you best be home to sign for it when it arrives. No Analog 5.1 Audio outputs, only has ABT 1018 upscaling chip (XA2 has the better chip) HD DVD is no longer in production, so only ~400 movies to watch on it.
Summary: At the current price dont buy an upconvert dvd get this! HD-DVD is over now but you can get a amazing player and HD-DVDs for half or less now. If you havn't yet get this. Im currently HDMI to my 1080p TV(samsung) and optic to my HK avr247 and it all works great. My avr cant do 1080p is why.
Pros: Looks nice the unit itself that is. The picture however is AMAZING. It makes half my regular DVDs look HD so corner to corner on my 1080p tv. and the rest have tiny letterbox strips. THe previous guy doesn't know how to do his settings. This unit is great it cost almost $500 at a in town store we...
Cons: The loading is slow like any HD unit I hear.. so eh Remote is kinda maped out a little bad( i don't mind it my wife doesnt)
Summary: HDMI' 7in 1 sound 720p-1080i rock old DVD's..
Pros: I know HD DVD is now dead but it's still top of the line hardware and as good as Blue-Ray.. Blue-Ray may have won the war but there are still alot of people that will not gave in to there price as it will hold on to now that HD DVD is gone. i have owned my HD-A3 4 months now and have enjoyed ever...
Summary: Finally, this HD battle is over and I can go get myself a PS3 without fear to lose my money. :)
Pros: None anymore
Cons: DONT BE FOOLED BY PRICE! TOSHIBA will not be making anymore HD-DVD product like this anymore. BLU-RAY "won" the HD battle. What this means is that HD-DVDs will probably disappear soon from store shelves. You will have a great player and nothing to play on it apart from current movies out now. HD-...
Summary: I bought this after the format war ended because I've wanted a good up converting DVD player for the "play" room so that DVDs can "look" HD on the 32in 720p Sammy display. I have tried it on 1080i on a 1080p Sammy and DVDs look awesome. HD DVD looks great too but I only own one title.
Pros: Upconverts DVDs to 720p and 1080i with supurb quality!
Pros: My understanding is that the A2 is technically similar to, if not nearly identical to, the HD-A2, which I do own. HD-DVD's look great, no complaints there whatsoever. Firmware update via CDROM worked flawlessly, and only took a couple minutes.
Cons: Start-time is slow, though that is to be expected for an HD player. A little frustrating when playing standard def DVDs, as I miss clicking "Eject" and having the tray immediately open up while the player needs all of 5 seconds to start up. Do not expect to use this as an upconverting player via ...
Pros: Great DVD upconverter, my standard DVDs look theater quality. Easy set-up, no firmware upgrade required out of the box. Too bad this format appears to be failing, but for the price, 2 free movies in the box and a rebate for 5 more from Toshiba; it's money well spent.
Cons: Netfix stopped carrying HD DVDs... Hello Blockbuster. Load times are not that bad. No HDMI cable but Newegg has them cheap.
Pros: The picture and sound are first rate, even if the max output resolution is 1080i. Great player for the price. Fully functional HD-DVD format won't be replaced by the same thing in a year like current Blu-ray will be.
Cons: This guy is optical only and doesn't support coaxial digital audio. This in itself is minor, though because small, inexpensive converters exist to create a coax signal from an optical signal.
