Toshiba DR430

Verne C., Newegg
12 July 2014
  • Summary: I'm using this to back up previously recorded shows on my satellite dvr (before age and obsolescence make the shows irretrievable). Also, it allows me to watch previously recorded shows in another room without having to pay for "whole house" dvr service. For what it does (and the cost), it's an acceptable solution for my needs.
  • Pros: This is an upscale version of the good ole fashioned vcr. It has plenty of basic features to transfer media files from other sources. It's primary function is to act as the DVR your cable/satellite company wants to charge you extra for. Like a VCR, you need to do some coordinating between devices to make the most of it.
  • Cons: The "One Touch Recording" has some limitations inthat you get to chose recording times in 30 minute increments. So if your program you are "hot recording" goes 1 hour and ten minutes, you get to chose if you want to chop off the last 10 minutes or allow it to record for an hour and 30 minutes.

  • Pros: It works! Recorder and remote are clean, manual was included.
  • Cons: Newegg site says 90 day warranty but sheet from refurbisher with unit says 30 days!

  • Summary: For instance, I have a Magnavox dvd recorder that I bought at Walmart for less than $100.00 more than 5 years ago, and it does all of the same things, like auto finalize, and has TWO more recording speeds - 2-1/2 and 3-hour formats in addition to 2 4 and 6. The Toshiba will record an 8-hour format, but who would ever need that much recording time, which, I'm sure, would sacrifice picture quality at that speed.

  • Summary: The Toshiba DR430 DVD recorder is a good product but please, read the instructions carefully and then read them again. After that hook up the unit and follow the instructions to get started. I found using the quick guide in the middle of the book very helpful when I started recording. A word of caution. Not all brands and types of DVD discs will work in this recorder.

  • Summary: I purchased this solely to transfer VHS to DVD. My first recorder arrived and I hooked it up and copied the first VHS without a hitch. The audio and video turned out as good as the tape itself. When I tried to burn the second home movie it quit working. I returned the product and Walmart immediately sent me a replacement. So far, so good, I've copied about eight home movies to DVD without a problem.

Saving Memories

Nate Powers, Radioshack
23 May 2014
  • Excerpt: This product is great. It was a present for my Mom for Christmas so she could convert all of our old family VHS tapes to DVD. It does a great job with good quality, and allows you to set video quality so you can fit 6+ hours onto one DVD. It also is an upconverter, so the TV and older DVDs look much better through this players HDMI than through the composite on Mom's old DVD player.
  • Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, Consistent Performance, Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, High Quality Picture, Records Great From Vhs
  • Cons: Doesn't Save Disc Image, Only One Copy At A Time
