Summary: PROS: The DR420 DVD/Recorder is easily one of the better buys I have made in electronics. User friendly, it's back to basics. Simple is best when it comes to audio/video equipment. The DR420 is sleek in design and less than 2" thick. I also own the DR410 model and like it a little better than the 420. The 410 has exterior control buttons and the 420 are behind a flip down door. All operations are accessable via the remote.
Summary: I bought this "new", but when I opened the box there was no manual, only a "Quick Start Guide" and it was in Spanish. I was able to set it up without it and figured out how to record some shows from my DVR to a DVR-R disc. However, I can't get it to finalize a disc. I've downloaded a user manual from the web and hope it's just something I'm doing wrong.
Summary: I ordered a new DR420 DVD Recorder, but I was sent a refurbished one from Discount Jungle. I called them and they gave me a choice of returning it or adjusting the price. I chose to keep the recorder and was given a discount. I have recorded about 75 hrs of TV so far and I like it very much. I hope it holds up.
Summary: The machine works fine escept for the fact that the s-video connection on the front does not work. I did not ues this connection until now, so I can not return it, but others should check this out when they receive it.
Summary: I use this as a poor man's set top box DVR . The cable company charges an extra $10-$15/month for their STB DVR and I didn't feel like paying that much. This machine does the job and it was only $81. I would suggest not using anything beyond the 4 hour mode. Anything more than that will degrade the video quality. Also note that you can't watch another station while recording.
Summary: This is a totally remote operational pc of equip. xception: Open and close of dvd tray can be manual Altho remote operation is good, I personally would like to have had the opportunity to have double choice, remote and manual
Summary: I bought it mainly to transfer videotapes to DVD and it has been working perfectly. It is very easy to use and the setup is simple. It is a nice recorder for the money. The DVD disks have to be "finalized" before can play on other machines. The manual is also easy to read and follow.
Summary: Got this unit hooked up with no problem to record content from my DirectTV. Everytime I would try to record somewhere from 15 minutes to 35 minutes into recording I would get a disc error stating the unit couldn't record to the type of disc. I tried several different types of DVD's -R +R RW and different brands, Verbatium, Toshiba (should work right?), Sony and had the error on all discs and disc types.
Summary: I have been struggling for some time with another brand of dvd recorder. I cannot tell you how many times I had to refer to the manual or switch settings to even attempt to record and then finalize my recording. This recorder is very simple and obviously meant for me. A great price as well.
