Toshiba Multi-Drive DVD recorders are multi-format DVD recorders designed to provide the greatest flexibility in recording and playback by supporting DVD-RAM, DVD-R, and DVD-RW recordable disc formats. The Toshiba D-VR5 is an all in one unit with lots of features. It makes pretty good copies of VHS tapes and is compatible with a lot of different formats of DVDs. The Toshiba D-VR5 performs well in converting VHS format tapes to DVDs. The picture quality is also good. However the disappointment lies in the manual. It is a confusing manual, not clear and definitely not user-friendly. A user who knows himself in consumer electronics, found the unit frustrating. It does not support many formats. And it will not tell you if a disc is not a proper format, and continually tries to read a blank disc. It does not quickly report a disk that it is unable to read. Another user tried to play other disks recorded on other DVD recorders and those recorded on the computer. The player was only able to play one disk that went in. Then the screen went blank and audio from tuner cuts out. The tray couldn’t be opened. Even turning power off & on could not get disk out. He had to bring it back to the store to have the disk ejected. This unit has so many features so it will take time to try them all. Toshiba D-VR5 is easy to use and can record up to 12 programmes in 1 month. Transfer from VHS tape to DVD requires only a few inputs on the remote; the same applies for the transfer of digital camera video onto DVD. Recording from a TV show is straight forward and it works well as a basic recorder. The remote control is quite ok and it works quite well.
