The Toshiba D-R400 is a terrific DVD Recorder, and is available at a very low price. Nothing better will you be able to get for this amount. For such a low price, it includes HDMI Video Upconversion via HDMI 720p/1080i/1080p (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). It can “upconvert”, or rescale the DVD video to a higher resolution that matches your HDTV's display. Users are impressed with the features and performance of this recorder, for its price you get a DVD recorder that up-converts to 1080p. It's awesome! The Toshiba D-R400 is an excellent DVD Recorder, it is a nice looking, sleek, glossy-black machine. It is light-weight at 5.28lbs, and has dimensions of only 16.54“w x 2.32”h x 9.72“depth. One amazing thing is that when writing to a DVD +R/+RW and -R/-RW if you select ”Auto Finalize“ this makes the DVD viewable on other machines. On a computer when you ”finalize“ the DVD you cannot write on it again. This is not the same with this Toshiba D-R400. With this Toshiba when you finalize after your recording, you can still go back and record something else until the DVD is full. Meaning that, there will be no wastage of DVD if you are recording only a 1/2 hour show. This is really an amazing feature. Another thing is that when you load the menu to select your recording, each is showed on the screen. If you click on any of them you get a full video preview of what's recorded. This makes it easy for you if you can't remember what you recorded. The menu enables you look at every recording so you can choose the one you want. The Toshiba D-R400 is highly compatible with DVDs burned by other machines. It is a great and perfect recorder, it's fast and the quality is excellent.

Thinking of buying a Toshiba D-R400...I want to copy programs recorded into my Optimum DVDR cable box using this Toshiba recorder...then play on a DVD player at a different TV...my questions are a) can it copy after-the-fact from the cable DVDR memory or does it only copy in real time and b) can it record in the 16:9 aspect ratio? Thanks, Mike
