Great recorder for simpletons like me

  • Excerpt: If you are a video technology wizard then this review is not for you because I have no idea about all the more advanced features. If you are an ordinary human being who just wants something simple to record programs so that you can watch them later then read on... With my last recorder (VCR with tapes) I often missed programs. I mean I KNOW I set the video and I thought I did it carefully but I guess I made a mistake somewhere and it recorded the wrong thing.
  • Pros: Easy to use .  Recordings automatically start at the right time .
  • Cons: Can't watch one channel and record another .

  • Excerpt: I know this to be an excellent machine, if you do not have sky plus or BT vision which are very similar. However, I ordered this product before Christmas for Christmas. I tracked it to the distribution depot in Leeds, from where it disappeared. It would have been possible for am azon to send another by special_D to arrive in time, but they declined to do so,but they did refund me without difficulty.

  • Excerpt: I have just received this product, very good apart from the instructions. I set up the machine exactly how it showed in the manual (to receive digital and analogue) and I could not get to tv to recognise it. What it doesnt show on the diagram is that you also need to connect it up with a scart lead to the tv. Other than that its very good and looks nice and smart.

  • Excerpt: I recently bought this item to go with my Sony Bravia 32` LCD tv in order to shift away from the old CRT tele, video recorder, DVD player and separate Freeview box - plus assorted leads & switches. The RDR-HXD890 was extremely easy to install. I just connected it to the tv with a SCART lead & an aerial and switched it on. It just installed itself.

  • Excerpt: All in all this is a brilliant piece of kit for the price. Very easy to set up. I suggest before you decide to experiment with the higher functions you go for the easy option i.e. stick the aerial cable in the required ports and couple up the scart. The manual is very straightforward I suggest you use the index in the back if searching for something specific.

  • Excerpt: Overall easy to set up and begin recording. The instruction manual is a little off-putting as it is quite thick and I found the beginning explanations about wiring it up a little confusing (Im not a tech-head at all!). It records in very good quality. Programmes stored are easy to view and delete after you are finished watching. A great buy for a great price!

  • Excerpt: I resisted going digital for a long time. If only I had known how incredibly easy the Sony DVD recorder was to use. The only down side is that I cannot watch one programme while I record another. However, I CAN watch a previously recorded programme whilst taping another. Copying from the hard drive to DVD is also very easy. Now I need to find the time to download my camcorder tapes to the hard drive and then copy to the DVD. My son assures me it is just as easy!

  • Excerpt: For some reason, I was a little worried about this before it arrived, as the technical data available online didnt state whether you could select your recording source if you had a SCART input AND a Aerial RF input. Thankfully, it has both and allows you to select them onscreen. The interface is a little confusing, but after spending some minutes trying to figure out the recording schedule screen (red, green, blue buttons are important), it was all pretty easy.

  • Excerpt: Setting up the HXD980 wasnt at all difficult. A separate sheet indicates the most common arrangements for connections, making life very easy in the first instance, even with the plethora of connective options at the back of the unit. The set-up menu is a different story and took a little deduction to work out how to tune channels and set the quality of recording; important for managing space on the recorders disk while achieving decent picture standard during playback.

  • Excerpt: The Sony RDR-HXD890 is a great little box with a bunch of magic. It has lots of very useful features. I bought this DVD player in my local Currys store for just under £200 Not only is this a DVD player it is also a recording device so you can record your favourite programs to watch them at a later date or over and over again. You can record onto blank DVDs or you can record onto the 160 gigabyte hard drive. The DVD player is so useful and very simple to use.
