Excerpt: SUMMARY I bought this DVD recorder to replace my previous Phillips one which seemed to die just outside of the warranty period. The recorder is slim, relatively stylish with it's silver and black finish, easy to setup and of typically high Sony build standards. There is a plethora of inputs and output connections, and the recorder has the ability to record to it's internal Hard Drive or to DVD disc.
Pros: Design, Ease of Use, Hard Disc and DVD recording, Digital Tuner
Cons: Not easy to see recording light, slow startup
Excerpt: Only lasted 6 months with me and then stopped recording. Not that impressed for a Sony product I expected a better quality. I paid £330 at the time. Very slow and not really user friendly. Can`t type in times must use the up and down key which can be very time consuming. My Liteon hard drive was much better and cheaper but not freeview and also only lasted 10 months with complete hard drive failure.
Excerpt: It is too late for me to return the product to Amazon, but I will see what I can do with the Sony customer services. I have used it for a month and, with a few minor problems, it has worked OK for 3 weeks. In the last week, however, it keeps switching off VERY frequently. It does so when I watch TV and also when I am watching TV.
Excerpt: I have bought a Nikon still camera, a Panasonic camcorder, a Sony DVD player, a Philips DVD/VCR recorder, & lastly this Sony DVD recorder. With the exception of the last all have major faults, not so much in design as that they dont work properly. The last, the Sony RDR-HXD560, has only one fault revealed in 3 months of heavy use : see #7 below. My point here is that the whole modern electronics industry is flogging a load of malfunctioning junk to us.
Excerpt: Like a number of other reviewers I was initially pleased with this machine until it started randomly powering down in the middle of playing or recording. I suppose its a Windows computer at heart and Windows needs reloading. Whatever the case avoid: it will only drive you nad.
Excerpt: My Sony RDR-HXD560 developed problems after about 6 months - sudden loss of power and failure to perform set recordings. Got it changed for a new one but after 4 weeks, exactly the same thing happened - NOT impressed and most disappointed by this Sony product - steer clear!
