Summary: I have the sony rdr gx300. It was a very good recorder until recently. Disks that I recorded on this unit suddenly stopped playing. One disk that I recorded on just two months ago I tried to watch; the picture was there but no sound, Then later the unit said 'disk is unreadable' 'cannot play this disk'. This just happened, until now it played them fine.
Summary: We bought our Sony DVD Recorder a couple of years ago and spent nearly $300. Now because of the latest DVD copyright enhancements, newer DVDs won't even PLAY!! This has happened to Knocked Up, The Bourne Ultimatum, Saw IV and others. Please do not waste your money!! This may have been a great product when it was first introduced but it will not play newer DVDs! A friend of mine bought this product last year and it is happening to hers also.
Summary: I bought this burner to record my favorite shows off of my DVR instead of having to buy the "show DVDs" that are $60 a season. I quickly grew tired of messing with commercials and just chucked the burnable dvds. So I never use this recorder for... recording. One good thing I remember for the few weeks I used the recorder (on a daily basis btw) was the inimitable "Record PAUSE" button. So important when using a burner for television shows.
Summary: I bought this item 5/06/06 from circuit city. It was an open box item. I paid about $90. bucks for it. Let me first say that i bought a panasonic a couple of years ago for about $500. It wouldnt record on all formats and finally the slot wouldnt even open to load disk any more. I pawned it. This unit RDRGX300 is remarkable. I did mention it was an open box right? It works flawlessly.
Summary: I bought this unit in Oct. 2004. Until now I couldn't have been happier. Now, the unit will not play any disc - not the movies it recorded and not the store bought titles. However, I have had problems with the Sony blank CD-Rs I bought. 5 out of 25 were bad, and the unit messed up the recording. The next blank set of 25 I purchesed were Phillips. Only one out of 25 were bad. Now, I wonder if it was the unit instead of the discs.
Summary: Don't buy SONY! After owning this product for little over a year, it fails to read any disk. All disks, commercial, -r, -rw,+rw, even disks it has created on it's own, generate the "disk error" message. Brand new disks (straight from the packaging) even generate this message now. Sony was uninterested in assisting me, simply telling me to send the unit in, at my cost and they would let me know what it will cost for repairs.
Summary: I have an extensive collection of old vhs tapes I wanted to convert to digital on dvd's. some are copy protected but i bought a video enhancer that allows you to by pass the protection not legal on rented vhs tapes i know that but sometimes it will copy and other times it won't copy.?
Summary: When I first got this DVR, I was thrilled. It was very easy to setup, and it recorded well. However, after 4 months, it fails to play 90% of my DVDs and will not format anything, and I mean brand new DVDs right off the spindle. It tells me brand new discs are dirty, and refuses to format them. A major disappointment.
Summary: I very easy to set up recorder and even more surprising was how easy it was to use. Basically put the media in and press record. This recorder can play essentially all media types whereas other brands will play only specific or proprietary media. I am a little bit of a techie, but I had never owned a dvd player, let alone recorder until buying this item.
Pros: Ease of use and able to play essentially all media types. Was able to purchase it for half the MSRP at the end of the year!
Cons: No hard drive, haven't been able to program it into my satellite remote control (may be the satellite remote though!)
