Summary: After ten years, this Sony DVD player continues to deliver flawless video and audio performance. With a very solid build, and exceptional features and controls, if you can find one of these on the used market, grab it. You'll maximize your enjoyment of every DVD you watch.
Summary: Sony hits the mark again with it's top of the line reference standard DVD/CD payer: DVP S7700. Sleek, user freindly, with stunning digital picture reproduction. Especially when the component video outputs are connected with other products that have component video inputs. Sony's list price is $1199, but I was lucky enough to get it online for $789. No matter what you pay for this gem, it's worth every penny.
Summary: Is it possible to fall in love with a DVD player? If it is, then this is the one that will grab your heart. Let me say it plainly - the Sony DVP-S7700 is an awesome player. I've used several different models, but this is definitely my favorite of the bunch. And that's saying a lot, because I was extremely surprised when I was able to watch home video authored on DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+RW discs.
Summary: When it comes to quality SONY is where you shop! This player gives you true command of your DVD viewing pleasure. Top notch picture quality along with easy to use remote control. I've actullay got this hooked up to an older Pioneer receiver with older speakers and the sound is outstanding. The picture quality with still settings is wonderful and the jog function makes this player well worth the higher cost.
Summary: It's hard to put into words how this player performs. The Digital Bits, an online DVD review site has posted a review of this unit. Read the review from the Digital Bits and decide for yourself.
Summary: I have owned my Sony DVP-S7700 player for some time and I never had any problem with it. Therefore, I was amazed that some people actually had a problem with this player as posted in some of the other reviews. I, for one, found the sound quality to be excellent. Incidentally, of all the professional reviews I read on the S7700, never once did I see a review mention that the sound quality of this unit was only fair.
Summary: This player is the benchmark standard of all DVD players. Read a review of this player in Stereo Review's Sound & Vision. Every other player is measured against this piece. The video is superb, especially hooked up with the component video outputs, and the audio is amazing. As far as the downsampling goes, Sony was simply complying with the manufacuring standard of the industry which did not want to allow a digital bitstream passing out of the player at 24/96.
Summary: After reading the other reviews I had to look to see if I really had the same unit... I do! Possibly some people don't have very good audio equipment and down rate the player. Try it with a Denon AVR5700 into B&W speakers with a MK Sub. It sounds great!
Summary: I set out to purchase a DVD player to complement my already in place home theater setup. I previously had a second generation, yet ~2 year old Panasonic DVD player with the DTS output. I finally found a dealer with the S7700 in stock and bought it. Once installed, I was thoroughly impressed with everything but the sound. I purchased, along with the player, a 36" Sony XBR WEGA TV, and, as expected, the picture quality was incredible.
