Summary: Great dvd player for the price. We needed a basic DVD player for my children's TV, a player that could also read DVD+R back-up discs & cd-rs (as well as deal with my children's daily abuse). The Sony has worked flawlessly. It plaus our Ridata DVD+R discs without a hithc. We have now owned the player for 6 months with no problems. The operation is simple; and the remote control is also easy to program and utilize.
Summary: Eleven months ago (Christmas, 2001), I brought home the sony (after returning another major brand dvd player because it would stall and freeze mid-motion). I was really depending on the sony name...I was impressed with sony anyway, because I had been given an old, second-hand sony trinitron tv. It was made in '73, given to me in '82...gave up the ghost in 2000! Enough about that.
Summary: I bought my DVD player to play DVD movies very well - ie. good picture, good sound. I didn't buy it to play 'copied' audio cd's, or MP3's so I dont care if this unit doesn't do that. There are DVD players out there that will do all that & more for the same price as this Sony - but at the end of the day ask yourself 'are they cutting corners to give me all that?'.

Summary: This is an excellent DVD player for the average person. It is easy to use, a snap to install, and plays DVD's well. It offers both analog and digital output so hooking it up to your surround sound receiver is a breeze. The optical out provides Dolby 5.1 output making the home theater sound you want from a dvd player. The only real drawback I've found is the fact that it doesn't play MP3s like many of the competing models.
Summary: Ok, I'm sorry but I love this dvd player. I don't care about that stupid techie stuff like CD-R, VCD, ect. I bought this DVD player to play DVDs, and it seems to be doing that very well. Setup was very easy. I've only had a couple minor problems with it. One was subtitles wouldn't shut off until I reloaded the disc. The other was the display menu remained on the screen. Both were easily fixed. This is my fourth player and hopefully my last for awhile.
Summary: Bought this DVD player as an open-box item for $... Great deal. Plays DVD's flawlessly, build quality much better than the highly touted Panasonic RV-31K. Excellent video and audio. Ample outbound connections (S-Video, Component video etc.) I don't care that it doesn't play CD-R's, CD-RW's and MP3's.... This is a DVD player and a GREAT one at that! Buy a CD player to play audio CD's.....By the way, this unit DOES play certain CD-R's. Try it, you'll like it!
Summary: I have been reading a lot about other DVD players skipping and freezing up. I have never had that problem with this DVD unit. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know that DVD's skipped or froze until reading reviews of other products. I know that there are thousands of more expensive, more featured DVD units on the market, but this one is great for the money.
Summary: This DVD offers a great picture and with the digital outputs (both coaxial and optical), the sound couldn't be much better through my 5.1 Home Theater receiver. I have a Sony receiver, so I use the less expensive coaxial cable, but no complaints here. Why only 4 star then? I've experienced some bad video chips in some lots, so it took me four tries to get one to work more than 5 minutes, but if you get past the initial 1 hour burn in time, I wouldn't worry about it at...
