Review: Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc Player
Reviewer: e-gear.com27 December 2007Although it’s nothing to write home about as a standard DVD player, the BDP-S300 certainly has what it takes to deliver a superb Blu-ray experience. Unfortunately, with the same price tag as a PS3 – also from Sony – comparisons are inevitable. With network connectivity, faster load times, Dolby TrueHD decoding and, oh yeah, the fact that it doubles as a cutting-edge video game system, the PS3 offers a ton of features lacking on the BDP-S300. As soon as Sony drops the ... Read more

The first thing you will notice about the BDP-S300, Sony's second generation Blu-Ray DVD player, is that the list price is substantially lower than the first generation model. The Sony BDP-S300 is obviously still much more expensive than most standard definition players, but is now more in line with the cost of competing HD DVD players. While the BDP-S300 delivers the same stunning visuals from Blu-ray discs as the first generation BDP-S1, some features have been lost... Read more

Sony BDP-S300, Samsung BD-P1200, and Panasonic DMP-BD10A Blu-ray Players
Reviewer: hometheatermag.com16 October 2007Hot on the heels of the first, and almost universally lame, generation of Blu-ray players, here's generation II. In the case of two of these players, the big news is a substantial reduction in price. Both are less than half of their predecessors. In the case of the other, the news is its fancy HQV processing, the same that's found in the excellent Toshiba HD-XA2. I have to admit, I get a certain amount of perverse amusement mentioning HD DVD in a Blu-ray review (and v... Read more

Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc Player
Reviewer: soundandvisionmag.com05 September 2007Anyone looking to experience the formidable pleasures of watching movies on Blu-ray Disc, and at a reasonable startup cost, is advised to check out Sony's BDP-S300. But I'd shop around before making the jump. Sony's own PS3 console not only offers the same features at the same price, it adds both wireless and wired Ethernet connectivity for future interactive content as well as an HDMI 1.3 output — a feature that could enable you to pass lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-... Great DVD or this Century!
Reviewer: BiteDownHard, Ciao2 weeks ago- Overall 8

Recommend to potential buyers: yes Full review This Sony BDP - S300 is one of the best dvd players of this 2008 era. It does not hurt your disk at all and it has a skip prevention inside so you can enjoy your favorite movies through out the whole screening. It is very easy to opperate and control. The sound quality that comes off from this is very good and the picture is even better than the sound. It is very easy to instal and the look of this machine can come in dif... Read more

sony isn't baloney
Reviewer: Amazon23 March 2008- Overall 8

Even before Warners announced that they would drop the HD format in May, I was planning to buy a Blu-ray player to add to my Toshiba HD player. I purchased this player online for $278 and have not regretted my purchase since though I am still waiting for the 5 discs to come since I bought it in January!! I did compare "The Aviator" on Blu-ray vs HD and could not find any marginal difference between the two though one salesperson told me Blu-ray was superior to HD beca... Read more

SONY BDP-S300
Reviewer: powellsep, PriceGrabber19 March 2008- Overall 2

(Edited March 22nd by slomtion) Beware of 5 Star ratings, Since they are usually posted by electronics sales people. I Purchased the Sony BDP-300 at a local retailer for $418.00 including tax, 3/13/2008, Returned it and got a full refund 3/17/2008. Load times are to much to bare, Local Video rental very limited in Blu-Ray selection. After having it for 4 days i couldn't bare dealing with it anymore. My opinion for a player this disfunctional, it's worth $100.00 Paid t... Read more

Reviewer: Soured on Blue-Ray, review.beachaudio.com07 January 2008- Overall 2

In store demo unit, which was reported as coming direct from Sony, exhibited erratic behavior. I purchased a new one anyway (unopened) which worked well for 20 minutes into the first movie then froze. Would not read any discs thereafter. Read more
