Summary: I wouldn't call myself an audio/video file but I do feel I know a little to keep my purchases of equipment knowlegable(I don't take many things back). I try and use the customer reviews as my key because I never buy anything out of the gate. It has been a good 3 yrs sinse the purchase of this particular player and i have to say it is a really nice machine. For those of you still in the CRT monitor world I have to say it rocks.
Summary: I wasn't expecting much due to the low price, but was surprised. I tried it on HDMI and component. The unit has a remote control "hack" that will allow it to output in high definition over analog component, if you are using an older HDTV without digital inputs (like my first generation CRT). Picture quality is great on both my HDTV sets (professionally calibrated)and looks almost as good as a Blu-ray disc on my PS3.
Summary: it is a great dvd player. and i like the little blue light! i think it is cool, it goes with the samsung 42" plasma tv. and it has a little bule light to... the picture is real good on it too. it is easy to use. and it is HDMI. use it....
Summary: I paid 5 times as much for my last DVD player. It is amazing how much clearer my picture is with this Samsung. Great value for the price. Even better, I hooked it up in under five minutes--one HDMI cable is all that is needed for audio and video!
Summary: I probably can't add much to what others have said about the HD850, but I will throw in my two-cents worth anyway. I'm not one who picks a component apart trying to find its shortcomings. I go purely by how a particular unit serves my needs and what I see for myself. Comparing the HD850 connected through the HDMI connection to my 50 inch Sony Grand Wega, this player just blows away any progressive scan unit I have ever had utilizing component video hook ups!!
Summary: I've had this DVD player for a few months, and I really like it. I had the HDMI cable hooked directly to the back of my TV, without an issue. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up an Onkyo 503 receiver, which doesn't have HDMI inputs. I found a simple hack on several websites, where you can still upconvert the signal from this DVD player using component inputs. (Try Googling it yourself, you'll find it).
Summary: I have this DVD player connected to a HDTV plasma display with an HDMI-DVI cable and the picture is really amazing. It looks much better than what I had before (progressive scan dvd player connected with composite video). My guess is that the great quality I am getting right now has more to do with me switching to an up-converting dvd player connected with digital video out than the actual samsung player.
Summary: I got a new LG 26 inch LCD and decided to buy a upconversion unit. Went to Fry's to get this Samsung one, within minutes I was able to hook it up. Picture quality is amazing!! Best part is that all the formats of DVD's that can not be run in my Sony DVD player, can be seen in this. I never bought anything but Sony but both LG LCD and this unit turned out to be pretty good.
